May I suggest the "Ignore" button, ma'am, sir?
Finally gave in after 2 1/2 years, prompted by unending daily "I'm not voting in November and neither should you" rants from one juvenile anarchist. As a 100% free speech advocate, I cringed at hitting that Ignore button, but decided it would be nice to occasionally visit GD:2004 Primary without being immediately negged out.

Next day the most slanderous, vindictive, destructive thread I've ever witnessed appeared there. The "usual suspects" joined in, giving me the opportunity to efficiently complete my "Ignore" spree in just minutes on that one thread - about 6 more screamers who've been de-energizing me for months.

May I heartily suggest the "Ignore" button to those of you who've been driven out of a forum by non-Democrats? Lingering guilt over using it? For me, NONE (wish I'd used it sooner). And interestingly, not one of those on my list shows up here in the Lounge, a place requiring at least some degree of compassion.

Try it, you'll like it.

1. I have 3 on it so far
With more to come probably. Depends on whether I want to put up with BS or not.

6. It's amazing I stopped at 6
In all honesty, most I picked from that post were already top contenders from past exhibitions. That one thread just collected them all into one compact place to remember their cumulative draining of my spirit.

5. What do you see when someone you have on ignore replies?
I've never used it before. Is it just a blank post? What happens when someone else replies to someone you have on ignore? Can you not see what they replied to? ...Just trying to visualize how it works.

What if someone actually starts a thread that you have on ignore? Will you see all of the replies and not the original thread?

Sorry. Don't answer if you don't want to, or just put me on ignore.:)

8. Before I put you on ignore
<kidding>

All I know (after one day) is that when your Ignore object posts, you see the word "Ignore", but not their name or message. Quite neat, really - you're missing what you WANT to miss, not everything.

Other veterans could better describe the other nuances.

7. I had put about 4 people on a month ago
I just took them all off recently and found that 2 had been tomb-stoned.

9. Well...as much as I'd like to ignore a couple of people...
I just can't bring myself to use "The Button". Maybe the Spirit of Free Speech is so ingrained, I would feel so much guilt that I would be filled with remorse. I don't know.

One thing I learned, I don't go into GD '04, it is a snake pit. No one is going to change their minds, people have chosen the candidate they will vote for, and that's it. Mine already dropped out, so I'm in the ABB mode now. The 4 remaining candidates all have good points, but I know where I'm going.

Anyway........people have put me on ignore, and I felt they were being somewhat haughty. I try not to be offensive in my posts, but I figure some people are just a little too sensitive. It is their decision, I won't change it.

In the mean time, keep up the discourse, it is your right!

11. Maybe you could give it a test drive?
I wanted to occasionally drop into GD:2004 Primary because there are alot of good posters still offerring valuable insights and information about the elections in general. To be terminally put off by a few obnoxious ragers was, I felt, unfair. As someone else put it last night: "You should have some degree of control over your DU experience."

12. I don't blame you for using it
I generally ignore the whole damn forum and get my information from late breaking news. Much friendlier that way.

Though I have never actually used the ignore button. I like to know what the posters who drive me crazy write. Keeps me on my toes. :-)
