2. Let's not forget his unforgivable treatment to "Let it Be"
I totally cringed hearing that damn choir during "The Long and Winding Road" It made me think :wtf:

They should have just stopped at "Abbey Road" and put the "Let it Be" songs on one of the Anthology albums.

21. Bands like My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus and Mary Chain.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoegaze

"Common musical elements in shoegaze are distortion (aka "fuzzbox"), droning riffs and a "wall of sound" from noisy guitars. Typically, two distorted rhythm guitars are played together to give an amorphous quality to the sound. Although lead guitar riffs were often present, they were not the central focus of most shoegazing songs."

27. Comes from the artists staring down at their effects pedals actually.
I supposed there's some influence between one another, especially "emocore" as it wsas back in the 80s/90s.

22. had there been better technology back in the day
Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 08:08 AM by carlyhippy
the wall of sound probably would have sounded better, on some songs like River Deep Mountain High the sound is distorted and it drowns out Tina Turner, same thing with "And Then He Kissed Me". Da Do Ron Ron and Be My Baby sounds pretty good...Brian Wilson/Beach Boys used the wrecking crew and had the wall of sound effect on Wouldn't It Be Nice and God Only Knows, and it doesn't sound as distorted.

23. Brian Wilson used to be an admirer of his.

Spector produced some good music, but as a person, IMO, he doesn't hold a candle to Brian Wilson.

24. Brian's music is much better
He met Phil and Phil didn't hardly acknowledge Brian, which was a shame. Brian did such a great job on Pet Sounds. He finished Smile a few years ago, but I know it would have been a crowning moment for him had he finished it in the 60's.

29. His finished Smile! album was great
But it saddens me to think how it would have sounded if young Brian and his brothers could have done it. It would probably have been one of the greatest albums of all time, if not THE greatest

25. He was great with certain groups back in the earlty 60's,
but he did way too much toot and alcohol and his little brain went bye bye. He made "Rock n Roll High School" with The Ramones, and they hated him and the record.
He just did not fit in after his time was up, and didn't have the sense to see that.
I think he is out pending an appeal - he did get convicted.

He probably has a California special verdict, "Guilty but Rich."

28. It's always sounded like a bunch of people in an airplane hangar
I've never understood what the big deal was with it. Maybe it was just a unique sound for the time.

Brian Wilson was a big fan of his, but he was a more skilled musician, and I think he implemented the "whole bunch of instruments and voices" thing much, MUCH better.
