Need some suggestions for a really good Fuck You letter to a boss
My friend's cancer has metastized all over the place and she's quitting her job. Effective immediately. The prognosis is grim and she's not wasting a single moment more at a job where her boss has undermined her authority, colluded in some real shittiness and basically made her days there a living hell for the past year.

She's worked at this place for 15 years. He's been there for a little over a year and it's really been bad. She's had a really bad year and frankly, the call to hospice is close.

She just got out of the hospital today and wants to "end in a blaze of glory" (her words, not mine). I love her. She's asked me to help her write this letter. I know she's not going back to this place - in fact, I'm fairly sure she'll never work again and with her sense of humor, she really wants to blow that place in style.

I am terrified for her. Laughing at the same time since she's so graceful and lovely and funny in the face of some real crap. I want to warn her that she's burning bridges blah blah blah but somehow... I just can't. She wants an FU resignation letter.

I'm too drunk and sad and weepy to compose anything tonight. But any suggestions from DU would be much appreciated. I'm guessing someone out there has thought of the perfect FU letter to their boss and right now, I need some inspiration. I'm not sure I'll be back tonight to take suggestions but in the morning I need to buck up and pull my shit together and do this.

Help.

4. A true blaze of glory doesn't go to the boss, it's an e-mail to all employees cc'ing the boss.
Hope she's not going to blow any insurance coverage or other benefit by doing so.

5. do you want to dazzle him with brilliance and a lot of multi-syllable
words?

or

just keep it short and to the point?

what about:

Fuck You, Bossman. I am out of here.

6. She should calmly ask to see the boss in his office...
Close the door, lock it if she can, and then proceed to quietly rip him a new asshole.

Forget the letter...persuade her to do it in person. It will make her feel great.

7. Now is the time
I admire her determination to deal with those things which
have caused her problems. It's sad that those that have been
with a company for a long time have to deal with newbies who
are trying to make themselves shine in front of their peers.

My suggestion is this: When my daughter died the following
christmas I found a christmas card dated for the present
christmas date. It seemed she had send me a card of love and
cheer from the grave.

9. Anyone can use obscenities
A well-written, searingly angry letter will make a much better impression on all employees. Like the poster above, I recommend that she hits "send all" with it.

I also recommend frequent and liberal use of the word "unfortunate" -- as in, "It's unfortunate that you can't overcome your personal failings to conduct yourself in a competent and professional matter", for instance. She could also mention that she's not sure what the future holds, but she's going into that gentle night knowing that she never compromised herself or her ideals for a buck, unlike the boss, who never had them and what's more, never will.

I'm so sorry about your friend. I hope this is everything she wishes it would be. I also hope that the boss is appropriately horrified when he realizes that his behavior most likely exacerbated what she's going through right now.

Julie

11. Oh man, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend...and the hell she's
been going through with a Boss From Hell. I can relate to that part, for sure.

Obviously I don't know the specifics of the situation with the asshole, but I agree with the 'unfortunate' suggestion...
I'd also suggest using the following in any way possible:
Immature
Unprofessional
Delusional

Those would be high on my personal list, if I were in her shoes, and writing to my current boss.

I am so sorry for your sad news. to you and to her!!

12. to really "end in a blaze of glory"... she should rise up above,
hate, in what ever form, is never an answer.

if she is truly "graceful and lovely and funny" then she should exit as graceful and lovely and funny.

no letter can be crafted to hurt those that have done her wrong. they would never get it. they would just remember her as bitter and hateful and small.

if she really needs to write a letter, let that letter be graceful and lovely and funny. because that is who she is and how she should be remembered.

write the letter that way, if you must write any letter at all...
