What is the most expensive clothes shopping spree you've ever done?
With regard to Sarah "average hockey mom's" $150,000 spending spree--It got me thinking.
I think once it was $500--including a $200 formal wear dress.
How much have you spent..

1. I spent $300 on a wedding dress a decade ago, but other than that...
I am frugal as all get-out. I do a lot of thrift and vintage shopping--it's more interesting, and certainly less expensive.

I bought two suits at Marshall Fields for $130 a couple of years ago. (They were clearance, from the previous season. Marked down from $300-$400 apiece to $59 or so. The horrors.)

2. That's really hard to estimate inasmuch as I don't 'spree.'
I tend to collect quality pieces from time to time, but it's pretty rare I go out to acquire an entire outfit or several pieces at a time.

But that leads me to question why it was felt that Sarah Palin needed an entire new wardrobe. Did the woman have nothing in her closet that was presentable? Seriously? The governor of our largest state? Nada?

3. I think she took advantage
To buy all the name brand shit she's always wanted at the taxpayers expense.
Its rather obvious that she LOVES to let the taxpayer support the lifestyle she's always wanted.

4. It wasn't actually the taxpayers, but rather the RNC.
And frankly if she wants to suck up Republican donations finding a handbag to match her huntin' rifle, I'm okay with that. That's $150,000 less buckages they have with which to spread their campaign propaganda.

34. I think that's it EXACTLY. She has a pattern of that with her per diem claims...
...and the news yesterday that she billed the state for dragging her kids along on trips with her (when they weren't necessarily invited).

She's milking the system for everything she can. Disgusting.

Back when I was flush with money (yeah, I'm one of those).

I've never spent more than $100 on a single piece of clothing. Ever. Even my prom dress and wedding gown were homemade.

43. I bought mine on eBay
Folks buy them from the shopping channels, and then decide the Birks aren't fashionable enough for work, and I get a bargain.

I rarely pay more than $50 a pair (including shipping), but I have over a dozen pairs in every imaginable color including purple and orange. Maybe I need an Intervention, but after thirty years of nursing my poor feet need coddling.

6. I just can't go that way.
I’ve had to buy clothes for occasions like a funeral; one where I was out of town and it came up unexpected, $200. Bridesmaid dresses and shoes, the ephemeral but necessary purchase at around $250 a pop. I also might buy something great when we go on vacation, but that might reach $200. My most extravagant expenditure was a scarf at around $300 about 20 yrs ago, and I still have, wear and love that scarf.

...set me back a few thousand bucks. And what a waste. I'm still trying to get the PETA blood out of it.

On edit: OK, but seriously....I hate shopping for clothes, and so I tend to buy an entire wardrobe when I actually go out and shop. Therefore, the bills can be sort of hefty. I think I spent about $1200 one time, which included a lot of professional attire and a coat.

3 new pairs of jeans, a good pair of hiking boots, several new tee shirts, and got my 15 year old Mexican cowboy boots repaired.
Not really clothing, but I got a new pair of glases, too.
This stuff will last me for about 5 years, except for the shoes - they will last about 8 years or longer.

I bought a couple pairs of jeans and a several new shirts. I felt like I had hit the clothes jackpot too. I'm cheap though, so I can't afford to do that very often. I still want a Hawaiian shirt one day, but cannot even afford the cheap imitation ones. I'd be happy with one of the imitation ones. :)

Edited: I can't spell today either.

28. I have to admit that I paid $1500. for a designer dress for hubby's
50th birthday party. I always wanted a "Scarlett dress" like what she wore to Ashley's b-day party (Gone With the Wind), and boy, was this dress it. I justified it because although I had two weddings, I never paid more than $150. for either dress.

That dress went up in flames last year when our house burned down along with everything else. Hubby
was 65 last year.

Fall of 1998, after dragging my ass back to college and struggling for so long, I finally had a CAREER instead of just a job.

I went to Talbots and bought about $500-$600 worth of quality jackets, slacks, nice tops, shoes, etc.

It was soooooooo nice. With reprehensor not able to get much more than PT right now, and me more concerned with ordering information for my family history book, these days I make do with K-Mart. No biggie.

46. My biggest clothing expense is good running shoes.
I buy Nike Shox, because I've had a lot of trouble with foot injuries, (I totally over-pronate, due to being knock-kneed!) and they run about 100 to 120 dollars a pair. Otherwise, I buy my clothes at Target, Kohl's or Ross.

However...

I must have some Dude DNA, because I'm not a woman who cares about shoes or jewelry. But I have heart palpatations every time I walk into Best Buy! When I shelled out 1600 for an HDTV 2 years ago, I almost died of anxiety. Even tho I'd saved up for it, it was really hard to blow so much money on one thing all at once!!!

Here's the other thing I do: I buy designer knock-offs. In my world, if you carry around a 5,000 Louis Vuitton or Chanel bag, and you can buy the same one for 25 dollars where no on can tell the dif, then you're clearly gullible and don't care if you get ripped off. Makes no sense to buy expensive designer stuff when it can be so easily imitated!

51. I used to make a lot of money and was foolish with it -
I'd buy $1000 suits, though I think I only had 3 over the course of a 6-year career in high-stress corporate law.

I'd NEVER spend more than $200 on shoes, though. The $500+ Louboutins, etc., just pissed me off, even when I could afford them.

Now I really, really, really wish I had that money back, along with the stupidly high rent I paid in Manhattan. Sigh.

But then again, I never buy high-end music equipment or other gadgets, all my furniture except my mattress is second-hand, so while I was a spendthrift in a few areas, I was frugal in others.

56. It's relative - $120 when you're unemployed = $150K Republican
The year after I graduated, my flame from college invited me to a New Year's party, and I was unemployed and feeling horrible about myself (the worst year of a lot of people's lives is the first year out of college, when you realize that life isn't ever going to be as fun or as egalitarian as college). He was a male model at the time, so I knew he's look great.

I went out and bought an amazing red silk dress for $120 (in 1982 dollars), and wore it once. Also Ralph Lauren shoes, and expensive make-up. For one night.

Don't regret a dime of it.

61. $600 for a dress
I was with my mom at a fancy store. I never "dress up". I just hate it and I really always want to use my money for farm equipment or compost or something useful. Not silly dress up clothes.

But I had this big event to go to and my mom was so excited that I was going to go to it and she was 83 or so and she picked this dress out for me and I must admit I looked really good in it. And for once in her whole life she was all happy with me. My mother loved to dress up and always looked smashing. I always loved to work and wanted clothes suitable for getting things done. Who cares what one wears under a lab coat or on a tractor? Plus comfort is so important, really. So, she was always saying things like "now how would you like to try a little make up?" or "have you considered getting a cute haircut?"

Anyway, at the time I knew it was a ridiculous amount of money to spend on something so useless. But I did buy it and my mother was thrilled and it was perfect for the event. A friend took pictures of me all decked up standing in front of my tractor.

My mother died three years ago. I was so close to her despite our different ideas about clothes. Now the fancy dress, which I wore that one time is precious to me.

63. I once spent £400-ish on suits...
... well that was the original ticket price. They were in a 25% off sale, plus I worked for the company where I got another 25% discount. These were so-called "designer suits" (Jeff Banks).

I still have the suits. Problem was I kept on growing... horizontally.

Mark.

64. My dad took me
and bought me a suit as a "coming of age" thing. I believe everything totaled around $300
