2. With a good paint coating and a broom stroke or two...
This place could become a decent Motel 6.

7. Eloise Hospital in Westland, MI was scary-looking
I remember driving by it when I was a kid. There is still one building left there on Michigan AVE. When I was a delinquency worker, there were still a few abandoned buildings left. Some of my delinquents would go there to have seances and such.

11. It's only been closed a few years.
Some buildings are still open for outpatients.

It has a huge campus and began in the 19th century as an osteopathic hospital. New York State took it over eventually and two to three thousand patients occupied many buildings before effective medicines were developed. It was set up like a village.

When I was there, there were far fewer patients, around 250, who were consolidated into one building. Many locked wards but they had a vitality of sorts then. This picture is one of the buildings that had been abandoned. It looks like Ellis Island before it was restored.

Most of the patients who still need long-term hospitalization were transferred to Rockland or Binghamton Psych Centers.
