1. I saw it

I am a long time Lou Reed fan, and I do have some Laurie Anderson CDs. I thought the questions were rather dull. Lou sang a new song "Who Am I?," solo. The thing I enjoyed was watching how Reed and Anderson interacted like a very nice, bright, middle-aged couple--which they are. She looked at him adoringly, and he touched her a few times as if they were keeping a secret. Anderson said she is an artist in residence for NASA. But that niether she, nor NASA knew what that meant. I did think, "they can't be bothered with the chunk of foam the crashed the Columbia, but they are paying "artists." A friend of mine who is a painter has been a friend of Lou's for about 38 years. He introduced me to him, and he seemed shy. When I lived in NYC I used to hear stories about Lou telling fans to "fucking die asshole," but I thought he seemed sweet.

2. Interesting.
A few weeks ago I read an interview with Lou Reed in the Guardian, which was really about how miserable Lou made the interviewer, who had been hoping to connect with him, feel. It could have been called "Lou Reed Made Me Cry." It was fascinating, in a way, to watch the interview get totally out of hand, mainly because Lou didn't want to talk about the kinds of stuff newspaper journalists usually like to talk about. So I was curious to see how Charlie Rose would do. I didn't think Lou would make Charlie cry, exactly, but it seemed like an odd mix.

4. It seemed like they got along well
with Charlie. They were mostly laughing and joking. I didn't watch all of it though. I was flipping back and forth between CR and Letterman. (Had to watch the MD sew up L's finger!)

But Yes, Lou did come across is somewhat shy, which was engaging. I didn't know he and Laurie were a couple, but it makes sense.

11. BurtWorm, have you seen the PBS American Masters
on Lou Reed? That and the one on Georgia O'keefe are my two favorites. I love Moe Tucker's website (VU drummmer), she has some good links, and she makes some good quirky, fun, music now.

13. It's been released as "Lou Reed: Rock and Roll Heart"...
check at your local video store. It even includes a brief snippet of footage from the "RARA" Academy of Music show.

6. Once again I'm regretting giving up TV
I'm glad to hear that Reed and Anderson are still together. I've always wondered whose voice is on the answering machine (considering that they both have such distinctive speaking voices). As far as interviews go, nothing beats the series of interviews that Lester Bangs conducted with Lou ("Let Us Now Praise Famous Death Dwarves", etc...) They are fascinating and disturbing.

8. Lou Reed and Kung Fu
The only good interview I remember reading with Reed was about his love of Kung Fu and the relationship he has with his Sifu in New York. He struck me as supremely humble and likable...

Go figure. Wish I could remember the link.
