Poll question: do you like classic pies best, or specialty pies?
If you were going to eat a piece of good pie, which would it be?

6. Cherry pie, of course!
She's my cherry pie
Cool drink of water
Such a sweet surprise
Tastes so good
Make a grown man cry
Sweet cherry pie oh yea
She's my cherry pie
Put a smile on your face
Ten miles wide
Looks so good
Bring a tear to your eye
Sweet cherry pie
Sweet cherry pie

13. Monica's Caramel Apple Nut Crunch
I spent a week in the Finger Lakes this summer and before I left I looked up different places to go and things to see as there is not much to do up there, but that's what I wanted - peace and tranquility. That's when I found out about Monica's pies. The day I got there, I found the place and got one. Actually, I had a few in that week - haha. It's famous for thier grape pies, but I didn't like that much, but the homemade Chicken Pot Pies are to die for and now let me tell you about the Caramel Apple Nut Crunch. You ready.

They come in two types. A regular one with crust over the top and one with an open top. I liked the open top. The crust was perfect. Not too crunchy and not too moist or soggy. Not too dry or too greasy. The perfect thickness. Flawless crust. The apple filling was perfectly seasoned. Slightly spicy. Sweet but not too sweet with big fresh apple chunks. Just enough cinnamon and nutmeg. Now for the best part. The open pie was topped with a thick layer of crushed fresh walnuts, cinnamon-crunchy stuff like you'd find on good coffee cake and it was all drizzled over with a thick layer of butter-creamy caramel that was slight crunchy but still creamy. The top layer almost tastes like a perfect candy bar and then you get to the apple stuff. Mmmmm. And then the crust. Ahhhh! OMG. That was the best damned pie I've ever had in my entire life and it's in the most quaint little place. Too cute.

Between Monica's Pies and the Wine in that area I was tipsy and stuffed with pie the entire week and it was all good! I can't wait to go back next summer and the people there were unbelievably nice. It was like paradise.

8. Where's key lime?
:(

I'll take almost any except pecan pie, it's far too sweet for me.

I especially love pumpkin, cherry, blueberry and key lime. :9

11. Best apple pie I've had is

at the Apple Alley Bakery in Julian, California, a mountain town famous for their Apple Festival each October. There are many pie bakeries there but Apple Alley has the best - and the crumb topping one is the best they have.

12. Why isn't there an 'all of the above' option?
Pie is one of my favorite things in the world...no way I could pick a favorite.

I'm already looking forward to Christmas just for the homemade pie consuming that will happen. My mom's apple pie is the best.

19. I guess I assume that green apple is apple
That's all I have ever used in making apple pie, and have won a couple of ribbons for them -- granny smiths or predecessors. I realize that some people like to use a Golden Delicious or red apples. Honestly, I didn't even think about pies made from red apples.

The very best pie apple is a gravenstein, but those are not easy to find where I live.

21. I think we've just used what's at hand
I'm sure that my mom can get into all sorts of discussions about what apples taste best or how they're different in terms of how they bake.... I don't remember though. Granny Smiths were my favourite as a kid. But, yeah, my mom definitely uses red apples when she makes apple pie some times - I never thought of it as a strange thing.

or chocolate silk

Speaking of which, I should make one of the latter one of these days, since I can't buy one pre-made locally.
