Red Wings acquire center Robert Lang from Washington
For WHLer (Moose Jaw) Tomas Fleischmann, a first-round pick this year and a third-round pick in 2006, according to the Washington Capitals site.
Lang had 29 goals and 45 assists in 63 games for the Caps this season.
John
The rich get richer. See you in the playoffs.

2. Not up to speed on Roenick since the injury
But I'd guess they figure when a guy gets his jaw broken in eight places and suffers --what? -- 40-odd stitches to boot, there might be a concussion involved as well.
John
I hope JR recovers soon -- he's a great hockey player.

3. Fuck the Red Wings...
Signed,

a St. Louis Blues fan.

Pistons/Chicken Wings = Good teams

Lions/Tigers = Major Suckage.

4. Aw, you're just mad
Edited on Fri Feb-27-04 03:20 PM by 5thGenDemocrat
Because the Wings have handed the Blues their asses 16 of the last 18 times or something.
John
So the anger is understandable. I guess that's why they call them the Blues.

7. The time of the Detwa winged wheels is over.
After the lockout/strike, the upcoming salary cap will doom any ancient, high salary team like the Wingnuts.

And your ice cold, piece of shit Dominos pizza owner won't be able to do a damn thing about it. Time to rebuild. LOL!

You think Hull, Shanny, Yzerman, etc. can play forever?

10. You're probably (almost certainly) right

Except that the Wings aren't owned by the ice cold, piece of shit Dominos pizza owner -- they're owned by the ice cold, piece of shit Little Caesars pizza owner, who also bought the Tigers from said ice cold, piece of shit Dominos pizza owner, Tom Monaghan.
Two, I suspect Ilitch (LC) knows this about the hockey salary cap. That's why he chose to invest $40 m/4 years on Ivan Rodriguez, and even more for Fernando Vina, Jason Johnson, Rondell White, Al Levine, etc.
The Tigers aren't going to the World Series any time soon. But I do suspect they'll be much improved over their 119-loss/major suckage record of last year.
John
I still went to seven games at Comerica last year and watched the Tigs lose six of them. But, like my buddy Mike B says, "Win or lose, it's still Tiger baseball."
Finally, at 47, I was in diapers the last time the Lions won anything. I suspect I'll be back in diapers before they win anything again. And that's being optimistic.

12. even more for Fernando Vina, Al Levine, etc.
Both those guys were on the Cardinals last year, and I can testify that both of them suck. Vina's OBP and OPS are terrible and he's slow (can't steal a base), though he is a great fielder (a couple of gold gloves), and Levine was so bad he couldn't make the horrible Cards' bullpen, though he did pitch OK for the Tampon Bay D-Rays.

Thanks, I forgot about Illitch buying out Monaghan.

14. Well, yeah, but "suck" is a relative term
Vina and Carlos Guillen are a BIG upgrade over Ramon Santiago and Omar Infante as a double-play combination.
We'll have Alex Sanchez leading off and, though his OBP and OPS aren't much better, he was third in the majors (IIRC) in steals. We aren't looking for Vina to steal bases -- but we need a reliable glove (desperately) at second base.
The Tiger bullpen is deep enough to let Levine pitch middle relief and set-up. I believe the Tigers will give Fernando Rodney first shot at closer, followed, probably, by Matt Anderson.
I wouldn't dare to say the Tigers are nearly the team the Cardinals are. All I'm saying is they won't lose near 119 games again this season.
John
You gotta start somewhere, you know. And when you're starting from the bottom, it's ALL an improvement.

17. The tigers are the team the cardinals are?
I'm a Cubs fan, so its gonna be a great summer watching the Cardinals fall apart come August, but STL is far better then DET, simply because of the coaching staff. Allen Trammel vs. Tony La Russa? Not even close.

18. Read carefully
I said there's no way the Tigers are nearly as good a team as the Cardinals. Detroit lost 119 games last year, for goodness sake.
Alan Trammell is going to be a fine manager, I think, and even Tony LaRussa had to start somewhere. Remember, last year was Tram's first as a skipper -- and he'll learn.
John
Tony and I have the same birthday, by the way. He's twelve years older.

This is a game we play: Fuck you, no Fuck You! No, Fuck You! No, Fuck You! Highly intelligent, and most persuasive. So, I will ask you, as did Travis Bickle (Taxi Driver), You talkin' 'bout me? Hope you know I was kidding (or geez, get some help). Anyway, Go Wings! (You talkin' 'bout me?)
