The official Philadelphia Phillies are going to kick some Rays ass thread
Edited on Mon Oct-20-08 01:56 PM by LynneSin
:woohoo:

And from what I saw on Sunday they've yet to put a Jersey on Billy Penn. I really hope they skip that tradition since it seems we have not won a championship since we started dressing Billy Penn.

Nutter: No Phillies cap on Billy Penn
By Peter Mucha

Inquirer Staff Writer

UPDATE: The fans have spoken, and Mayor Nutter has heard the word, that Billy Penn should be left alone, he said this evening. "We’re not doing anything with regard to hat or jersey," he said by phone.

Things didn't turn out so well in 1993, when the statue on City Hall wore a giant Phillies cap, he said. "Quite honestly, the team has been doing so well, with Billy Penn wearing his usual gear, we don’t want to change anything," he said.

EDIT NOTE:

Some of us also believe that the reason we haven't won a major championship since 1983 is because in 1984 was the first year that Billy Penn's view was blocked with the opening of One Liberty Plaza. So it seems to counter that superstition we hosted another statue of William Penn on top of the new Comcast Building (which is now the tallest building in Philadelphia).

From the article:

To counter the jinx, a smaller Penn statue was placed atop the Comcast Tower, now the city's tallest building.

Now the Phillies are in the World Series.

2. Well while I'm rooting for the Phillies
cause they are fun to watch, both as a baseball team and cause they are HAWT..I wouldn't say they are going to kick Ray ass...I expect this to be a hard fought evenly matched series.

7. Word!
There's a professor at the University of South Florida who has been linked to terraist activities. He may even have been to a ballgame down there, though that isn't too likely since they only drew 12,000 a pop unitl this month. :eyes:

Therefore, all of the AL team's bandwagon-jumpers are, in the words of Sarah Palin, "pallin' around with terraists." Q.E.D.

:sarcasm:

9. Phils won 20 of their last 25 games.... This will be a great series.
They won 13 0f their last 16 regular season games.

They had more problems with the Sox than the Rays in the season, IIRC.

Bring it!

4. Shane Victorino wants to try that new Spam made out of ray!
Hey, why not? They already have turkey Spam! :-)

For those of you just tuning in, our dear friends over at PETA :sarcasm: crossed swords with the "Flyin' Hawaiian" after he told an interviewer that among his favorite foods was Spam musubi, the classic East-meets-West Hawai'i snack consisting of a block of sticky rice with a slice of grilled you-know-what on top, wrapped in a strip of nori seaweed.

Maui native Victorino becomes the first Hawai'i player to make it to the Series since Benny Agbayani with the 2000 Mets. For that reason alone, it's the Phillies for me; all thoughts of "instant metropolis, just add water" and the like are merely reinforcers.

8. I hope Shane returns to Hawaii
with a big ole world series ring to show off. And the Phils have so many potential series MVP's (assuming a win.)

12. It's extremely hard to hate the Rays this year.
Edited on Mon Oct-20-08 03:38 PM by PeterU
But I do have to say there is nothing too objectionable about the Phillies, either.

That being said, speaking as a Floridian, go Rays!
