Anybody here tried Adipex?
http://www.drugs.com/adipex.html

Adipex is a stimulant that is similar to an amphetamine. Adipex is an appetite suppressant that affects the central nervous system.
Adipex is used togther with diet and exercise to treat obesity (overweight) in people with risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes.
Adipex may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

14. In spite of my snarky reply, I think it's probably worth trying.
If it makes you feel bad or doesn't work, just stop taking it.

But who knows? If it's helped other people...

3. My doc had me use it for a short period of time
Long story, but I was placed on heavy-duty meds in order to keep my pregnancy back in 1996. As a result of those meds, they destroyed my metabolism....and even though I hardly ate during my pregnancy (and vomited daily until my 7th month), I gained just under 80 pounds. The doctors had warned me that extreme weight-gain was likely, so I mentally prepared myself to deal with that, and then work on losing the weight once the baby was born.

I did everything the docs told me to do, post-pregnancy....cardio, low fat, lots of veggies, lots of water, etc....I did not lose one single pound. My doc wanted to see if weight-loss would be jump-started by using Adipex, since literally nothing else was working.

For whatever reason, it worked. I only used it for 30 days while keeping up with the regimen/diet I was using before the prescription. Once the 30 days were up, the weight continued to fall off at a healthy pace. It worked wonders for my personal situation.

Some interesting things about side effects.....I got a euphoric high from them, which would start about an hour after I took it each morning, and last a few hours; but it also made me really jumpy - and even though I'm generally an energetic person anyway, it had me bouncing-off-the-walls hyper. I would strongly recommend you don't drink coffee if you're taking Adipex, and drink lots of water.

Hope that helps. :)

5. thanks for sharing...
that is what I need..a jump start. My thyroid was out of wack and it slowed my metabolism way down. I don't need to lose 80 lbs. but, I do need to lose some weight. I will stay away from the caffeine. I haven't started it yet but, the 2 girls at work are having good results and I thought I would talk to my Doc about giving it a try. :)

7. It's similar to phen/phen.
Instead of being given phen/phen, I was given Adipex and Pondimin.

I stopped taking it when I started feeling like my heart was triple beating. It made me feel absolutely horrible! I never had any kind of heart issue before I started taking it, but every now and again I still get that feeling in my heart, now.

I would tell anyone to be very careful and find something different. It's just not worth the risk, IMHO.

10. has that been removed from the US Market?
Do you think it was the combination of the 2 drugs that caused your bad reaction, or maybe just the pondimin alone.

11. It was removed from the market.
And I stopped taking it and only took the Adipex for awhile. I'm almost positive it was the Adipex. It's just too much like speed. It made me jittery, increased my heart rate, gave me the shakes. That's was when I just took the Adipex . It was just way too scary. I stopped taking it, and I felt fine.

As a side note...I had one friend who LOVED doing coke. I would never touch the stuff because it was always around my house as a kid and I know what it did to my mother. Anyway, she would always take one of my Adipex because she said it made her feel similar to being on coke. Now, I will allow that everyone is different, and it just may be that she reacted to it that way because she weighed maybe 95 pounds soaking wet.

13. I hated the feeling, too.
I hope that you find something that is effective without the added side effects for you.
