Worst use of "auto-tune" in popular music?
I'm not talking about the kind of tunes where they're using it intentionally for a certain effect (I'm thinking Cher's "Believe"). The song that got me thinking about this is the Rascal Flatts cover of "Life Is A Highway," where the use of auto-tune on the backing vocals in the chorus is REALLY obvious.

1. It's always awful. Every time. No exceptions.

Kid Rock used it, too, which makes him unbearably awful, squared.

3. cubed....not squared.
I hate it too. There is now a Deborah Harry song where they have added that effect and she can sing perfect pitch. I used to intonate 2 of my guitars by her voice. If ever there was a case that a singer didn't need it, it was her. Now, they've even done that to her voice. It's an abomination, I tell ya, an abomination. x(

Her voice is the epitome of an angel's voice and they did THAT to it.       That should be a crime.

6. Also known as pitch-correction software.
It's software that automatically corrects the vocalist's "pitch" so they're hitting every note perfectly. Use it with someone who has excellent pitch and you can barely tell it's there (but you still can if you listen closely enough). Use it with someone who sings like a rusty hinge and then it sounds like the worst recorded telephone voice ever trying to mangle a song.

I fucking hate it. And I love when Silverchair came right out on their Diorama CD a few years back and put a note at the end of the credits stating that they don't believe in the shit and will never use it.

5. That song Ozzy came out with last summer.
We know he can't sing anymore. Hell, thanks to the magic of TV, we know he can't talk intelligibly anymore. Let the poor guy retire already, Sharon.

9. A friend of mine is a producer and can tell by ear what auto-tune program a given song used.
Listening to the radio with him is amusing.

12. It's bad.
And unbelievably, the trend in some analog music synthesizers is toward "accurate". NOT rock and roll...artless, just artless.
