Today's College Football Thread
Plenty of good games today, including four between ranked teams. The highlight of the early games is Georgia (10) hosting Vanderbilt (22), but we also have Clemson playing their first game in the post-Tommy Bowden era, against Georgia Tech's option attack. Also Texas Tech at Texas A&M and Wake Forest at Maryland.

In the afternoon games Oklahoma (4) hosts Kansas (16) and Michigan State (20) hosts Ohio State (12). Also, Penn State (3) hosts Michigan and No. 2 Alabama hosts Mississippi.

The biggest game of the day is No. 11 Missouri at No. 1 Texas, which would be an even bigger game if Chase Daniels and the Tigers hadn't lost to Oklahoma State last week.

So who is your team playing? What games are you watching?

4. That game could be a good one
against South Carolina--both of their losses were to good teams, but none of their wins has been particularly impressive. LSU should win, but it might be an interesting game :)

quite a tough stretch of schedule for the Longhorns, with OU last week, Mizzou this week--plus their next two games are against teams in the top 10 (OSU and then Texas Tech). Should be a good game tonight ...

8. It looked like he might have broken his arm at first
He had all of his weight on it when he hit the ground, and the way they were holding it as he walked off the field looked really bad. But apparently the X-rays showed the bone was fine--may have been a slightly dislocated elbow is the last I heard ...

13. Well, PC left seven points on the field at the halftime break.
Unless the Trojans break a lot of runs or WSU gets frisky passing and gets pick-sixed a few times
it will probably not get to that stage of crushage.

If Pete Carrol was going against Bellotti (ducks coach) again he'd have gone for that TD--and then some.

I really wish Michigan would make up its mind whether it sucks.

And I wish Penn State would make up its mind whether it is as good as its ranking.

But, it's a good game nonetheless.

22. Canes found their QB
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 06:12 PM by Awsi Dooger
Freshman Jacory Harris replaced struggling redshirt freshman Robert Marve in the second quarter with Miami trailing at Duke. Harris has turned a 17-7 deficit with less than a minute remaining in the second quarter to a 49-24 lead with under a minute in the game.

Granted, it's against Duke but Jacory has thrown 5 TD passes and has great poise and touch. He'll struggle against better opponents.

This continues a trend this year of Miami playing much better on the road than in pathetic Dolphin Stadium. If you got the late number in the Florida game, a guy could be 6-0 in Canes games simply by wagering on the road team.

Kudos to the wise guy speculators who bet this game down to Miami -3 today. Thank you very much. It was -5 all week until the wise guys got involved.

Duke scored in the final seconds. Looks like the final will be 49-31.

37. Well, if the game against Wake starts like this one did, Harris will be
back in before long. Too bad that game is at home, though. :)

Are you sour on Shannon in general, or is this an exception? (IIRC, you were somewhat optimistic about him last year ...)

45. I was optimistic about his recruiting
That's his undeniable strength. Otherwise he stands on the sideline will little emotion and makes bizarre decisions, like removing the names from the back of the jerseys last season. That supposedly was some sort of team unifying statement, but it lasted all of one year. Maybe this year's team doesn't want to be unified.

I am souring on him a bit as a head coach. There are reports that the other coaches on his staff don't like to work with him.

Anyway, this Marve decision has really livened up the Canes message boards. :)

Almost everyone is miffed/furious.

41. Last week ...

I think last week was the "superbowl" of college football this year.

A lot of teams are good and have a legitimate shot at a national title, but I think the two best teams in the country faced off in Dallas last week. The after-game polling reflected that. Texas jumped over people for the #1 spot, and OU didn't fall that far.

The Big XII is tough as nails this year, and there's always that chance for an upset, but I think Texas wins out and plays for the national title. But, whatever happens, I think the real title game was played last weekend.

40. The Beavs beat Washington for the FIFTH straight time.
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 09:29 PM by Twillig
My, how the worm has turned.

The Beavs had problems with the deep ball from their UW's QB Fouch, that was about it apart from a long breakaway run late in the game. UW's kicking (placekicking) game sucked.

UW shut down Jacquizz Rodgers early, but his brother James burnt the Husky's with long runs and 3 TD's.

Time to check out Cal and 'Zona. No Ducks to root against this week.
