This is a cool optical illusion

If you do it right, you'll see first two pictures, then three... then it pops into a single 3-D image.

Wikipedia rocks!

1. That's called an autostereogram.
Usually they require you to focus your vision behind the picture. This one requires you to focus in front of it, which I am not used to doing.

Those things were all the rage when I was at university.

2. I have a much harder time getting the mountains to pup up, than down.
I can do both, but getting the mountains to form valleys, with a lake on top, is much easier.

4. I used to be really good at these....
Now, apparently, not so much. I guess I've lost some of the muscle control of my eyes? :(

9. I'm going to try again from home where I have a bigger monitor.
So far no luck, but I'm determined to get this to work.

Here's one just found online..same center focused 3D effect
Not nearly as cool and life-like as the one you posted, but now am totally fascinated with it all! :bounce:

17. Ugh, sorry...
It's there, really.

You have to cross your eyes to form a third, centered image with no overlap, then sort of focus on the center image without actually looking at it. It will dominate your vision and the 3D effect will pop out and the two side ones will kind of become a background.

If that doesn't work, take two of these and call me in the morning.

Welcome to DU! :hi:

14. Remember when you had the eye tests in grammar school?
You had to look in a little machine where there was a red dot (apple)for one eye and a picnic table for the other. You had to look at it with both eyes, and the "correct" answer was to see the apple on top of the picnic table. My apple was NEVER on the picnic table! I had 2 eye surgeries before I was 8, but even after that I never saw the apple on the table.

So, what does this have to do with this OP? Well, I will never see one dot and cannot see things in 3D in real life anyway. But I tried anyway, and now my right eye hurts! But I won't sue... :hi:

18. I had to take a depth-perception test for a job...
I got 9 out of 9. I think the screener said I was the first person to score that high.

And I have 20/400 vision or worse!

Must be my big whoppin' head...

19. "Must be my big whoppin' head"
So that's how you can manage to swallow 2 of those:

:)

BTW,it's far more efficient when used as suppositories.
