2. Is the new Kirk Shatnerworthy?
I don't know, I'm worried this might be a little awkward and upsetting, as cool as it initially sounds....

12. So Kirk's too cool to wear an actual uniform?
Why no insignia? Did he get expelled for a panty raid at the Academy?

He looks like a host for "Sprockets:The Next Generation".

13. The actor who plays Bones looks EXTREMELY convincing.
You can see a younger DeForest Kelley easily. Uhura is good too.

Kirk, Spock, Scotty, and Sulu... not so much, but they'll do.

Who's the curly-haired character to the left of Kirk?

18. I think that's supposed to be Chekov.
But, if Kirk is early twenties in this movie, wouldn't Chekov be like 15 years old?

The actor playing young Bones looks more like Joey from "Friends" than DeForest Kelley to me.

14. i saw these on another forum
and i'm impressed with the look so far -- this has potential if the writing is good...

I'm not sold on them keeping the 60s-style uniforms, but i guess there has to be a nod somewhere to the original series (short skirts in space? i'm confused and turned on at the same time)...The what i can see of the bridge seems a little too 'out there' -- One of the stylistic things "ST: Enterprise" tried to do here and there was to bridge a technological gap from where next-gen NASA tech ended and Starfleet tech began...But then again maybe they are going into a different direction altogether...

And Kirk seems pretty young...I remember reading in a novel (can't remember if it was canon or not) that Kirk was the youngest to ever make Captain at age 31? well, off to the star trek forums to get my timelines straight (haven't been there in years so i'm a little rusty)

Except maybe Urban, a little.

Two hours of listening to (and watching) bad impressions of iconic characters could drive me bugfuck. Well, we'll see.

They dont give starships to every newbie that comes out of the academy do they?

They all look way too young to do anything but sleep through their math class the morning after the frat party...

Harold and Sylar Go to Starfleet Academy might sound like a good idea on paper but I don't know this is gonna work. And I'm a Trekkie.

The casting decisions are totally ruining this for me. Karl Urban is about the only one I'm digging in any capacity, but I'd pay to watch him read the phonebook. I can't see Zachary Quinto as anyone but Sylar, he just looks too weird, and I'm not terribly enthralled by his acting skillset. I could be wrong (I hope I am) but that one still pretty much confirms that he's just Sylar with pointy ears in this. Zoe Saldana? Uh, no. Sanaa Lathan can act circles around her. It also seems to suffer from the same problem that Enterprise did, in that it just looks way too polished. That set's ridiculous.

Mostly I just wish they'd leave Trek dead where Brannon and Braga buried it. It's like they're trying to one up themselves in how they can further fuck it up. :P

The original Kirk chair was iconic. All the movies and spin-offs tried to improve it and they all failed.

35. They seem to have forgotten that Vulcans age much more slowly than humans.
In "Enterprise," we learned that T'Pol was about 130 years old, yet she looked to be in her late 20s. Similarly, "Voyager's" Tuvok had been an ensign on Captain Sulu's ship eighty years before, and looked pretty much the same as he did on Voyager.

Given that the new movie takes place no more than, say, fifteen years before the original series, Spock should look just exactly like he did then (mid-30s and Leonard Nimoy-esque). The age Spock is in these stills, they must be setting the movie about the middle of next week.

I thought Enterprise was also before the TOS, so what happened to Sulu? Was he a Captain with his own ship then demoted?

39. Enterprise was before TOS, but Voyager was set 80 years or so later than TOS.
Tuvok served on Voyager, but in one episode he relived some memories from when he was aboard Sulu's ship in the TOS era.
