something weird happened today
so, something weird happened today. i was coming back from a quick trip out of town to the county court house(checking my voter registration) and turned off onto a back road to get home quicker. there was a cop parked on the side of the road who got out of his car, walked into the road, and got me to stop. then he asked to see my license and registration.

so i give him my license, look around for my registration.. i was in my mom's van, not my car, so i'm not sure where it is. after digging around for a few secs he says "just make sure you get an '08 sticker on those tags". so i say "yes sir, thanks" and leave. i get home, check the license... it expires in august of '09. and, he couldn't have seen my tag anyways.. he parked was in front of me, not behind me. he also told me he liked my license picture which didn't help the sketchiness. it was really really was weird.

5. Call it in. Talk to the Shift Commander.

That's what I would do. Seriously. That doesn't sound right, but if it was legit, the SC will be able to reassure you.

12. Yep. Report it.
Find out whether a real police officer was on duty at that time and place. Call the mayor's office if you don't get a straight answer.

7. Was this definitely a legitimate cop?
There are cop poseurs who do stuff like that, some with crime in mind. :(

10. Ava, this is serious
Edited on Thu Oct-16-08 01:34 AM by Duppers
Talk to your mom and step-dad about this, please.

This is not good behavior for even a legit cop. Two cops in a town very near us have been charged with rape! I'm dead serious.

Honey, yrs ago my dog stopped 2 guys one night who tried to get into my car after I had filled up with gas. I was in the car too. I love my dogs and have always hauled them around with me. Hint, hint.

14. This has happened to me before, no big deal...
Police are allowed to do that if they do it for everyone, not just who they want to.

It happened to me about 10 years ago, two cops had one of the two lanes blocked forcing traffic into one lane. As the cars passed they signalled you to stop, looked at the registration and inspection stickers and sent you on your way. If yours were expired (like mine), they pulled you over and ran you for warrants (I did not have any).

It is basically a legal way for police to look for people with outstandnig warrants, but the key thing is that they have to do it for EVERY car that comes along.
