My 8-year old daughter wore her Obama button to school...
...and actually got crap from another little girl who told her it was stupid to vote for a black guy...my daughter (white as can be) got upset and started crying because of the mean little girl...a proctor asked what was wrong and she told her...the proctor then has the gall to say, "Well maybe you shouldn't wear that button to school then!"

My daughter actually used her own money to buy this button and was not forced to wear it by my wife or I...though I did express my appreciation for her interest and knowledge...she is such a little activist already...

Crazy thing is my wife teaches 2nd grade at the same school! It just still amazes me how people think and obviously spill their hatred to little ones...I know this isn't news to anybody but I just had to vent...thanks

1. Sad. The proctor completely missed a teaching opportunity with the other (mean) little girl.
What a wonderful chance to sit the child down and talk about equality, etc. Sad, sad, sad.

3. True...
Unfortunately we live in a big time Republican area and I get mean looks and rude comments constantly from my Obama stickers, signs and T-shirts, but to do that to an 8 year old is ridiculous...I am sure the proctor is a McCain lover and took the chance to make a swipe...

2. I'm sorry your little girl had to endure the hatred spread to littles
by their ignorant jackass parents.

My 9 y/o daughter wore her button once. Turns out her friend's parents are McCain folks, and the friend made a comment. My daughter just told her to tell her parents to "vote smart" and walked away, but she didn't want to wear the button anymore.

I don't blame her. It's hard to be a little kid in a mean world.

4. It's tough living in a mean world. Period. The Bushies and friends
have not made the world a nicer place.

It's weird, when I was your daughter's exact age, I took major shit for wearing a Jesse Jackson for Pres button to school. I was a little black girl in a rich WASP private school, which was part of it.

It's so sad to think things have not changed since then, but the one consolation is that this time "the black guy" has a very good chance of winning, at least.
