My cat is starting to disturb me - does anyone else have this problem

Damn cat always runs into the bathroom when I'm in there and he starts sniffing me when, well, I'm trying to go to the bathroom.

Hey, I'm a single girl and when I'm at home by myself I normally don't close the bathroom door. But my cat is freaking me out with this damn habit!! I mean, it's not like I'm going to follow him to the litter box and sniff his ass while he's doing his duty.

What's up with this freaking oddass behavior??

1. My dogs do the same thing.

Especially the orange backup auxiliary cat.

4. The cat doesn't do this...but Jessie (our sheltie) feels it is her

personal responsibility to escort friends and family to the bathroom when they have to go. She whines outside the door if she's not let in and then absolutely must watch the toilet while it flushes...she goes nuts over that. :shrug: I have no idea what is up with these silly animals.

A toy water gun is good too. If he thinks you can't control yourself in there, he'll get himself another hobby. And he clearly needs one!

into the bathroom -- but they don't sniff us. They just jump into our pants, sweats, jeans, whatever, as they hang around our ankles while we're doing our business.

9. My ferret does this

Partly because she just likes to be in the main bathroom - I shut the door on it when not in use to keep her out and from pooping behind the toilet. She'll sniff my pants, lie down on the bath mats and stretch out, jump in the tub and lie down, or try to get into the cabinets.

Our boy does this to my wife not the sniffing just the coming in while she is in there. She doesn't lock the door.

They learned not to do that with me. :evilgrin:

11. Our new cat Papa does the same thing

Never had a cat do this before. We think he might be a little bit of a pervert, frankly. :shrug:

12. My little brother used to do this with my father when he was a toddler

because my father was a "captive" audience....my father's alone time on the throne became their one-on-one time....stink or no stink. My little brother would sit on the edge of the tub and they'd just talk.
Children and pets, I guess, aren't put off by things like that.

My dog does the same with me. He knows he can get his back scratched and be the focus of attention during that time. My other pets haven't figured this out yet...or it might get pretty crowded.

If Tucker is anywhere in the house, if he hears that toilet seat come down, he comes running, full speed, tail in full feather duster mode, and plops down right in front of me purring like crazy.

18. My Hobbes used to perch on the sink when I would...

well, pee, and try to attack the stream. He was finally banished from the bathroom after nothing we tried would modify that behavior.

Didja ever scratch the critter when on the throne? If so, there's a reason it's following you to the toilet.

She likes to sit on the edge of the tub and be scratched behind the ears. I keep the faucet dripping for her to drink out of, but she wants me to turn it on full blast. She loves to look at flowing water. I can't take a shower alone, either.

My big guy Jack likes to follow me into the bathroom and shove his head into the toilet via the space between my butt and the tank to look at the water! It's like getting a fur wedgy. :)

21. company in the bathroom

my cat and sometimes my dog love to visit me in the bathroom. fortunately they're not quite as invasive as some of the pets described here on DU ;) but having one or both of them stare at me is a little disconcerting....I think they just want to be close to me.
animals are also weird, like people, they have their odd tendencies. this is one I have heard about from others too

in the bathroom WITH me when I'm doing my 'toilette' as it were. In fact she has to sit on my lap and have her breakfast, off the vanity, one kibble at a time whilst I'm applying lips and lashes.

We're used to it by now.
