Guess what my cat learned to do?
Merlin can now open RubberMaid containers to get to the good stuff inside. I'm talking about the snap top ones...the ones I have trouble opening. If I hadn't been downstairs I would have thought one of the kids had left it open when they fed the cat. I was working away and heard a repeated bumping noise... I got to investigate and there was Merlin repeatedly pushing his head against the lid with his paws hooked under it. As I stood watching "snap" the lid popped off. I think we need to take desparate measures now...such as overeaters annonymous...sigh.

1. We had a cat like that once.
We swore that if he had opposable thumbs, he'd be a danger to society.

Hey MrsG, how's your sore throat?

2. Smart cat.
You'll have to resort to electric shocks.

5. I LOVE cats....They are so dear and SMART....Merlin sounds like a genius!
We had a cat (sadly now deceased) that used to knock on the back dining room window with her paw so we would let her in....Not only for herself, but for her sister, who didn't have the sense to do it and would sit waiting at the door forever....

6. Our little girl now opens my sock and yes underwear drawers
she makes herself a bed and sleeps/hangs out in there.

When I get home this afternoon at least of the three middle drawers will be open.

She has in the past:
Jammed the washclothe in the drain and turned the hot water on full blast, she drew herself a bath but didn't get in.

When she was little she pushed books out of the 5 shelf bookshelf to create a ladder to get to the top.

Somehow she manipulated the doorknobs and opened both of our closets. We since has put a latch on both.

I am pretty sure she has turned on the TV at least once.

7. What a clever kitty!
I'm always amazed how they figure things out.

8. Part coon, eh?
Do you have a plan for when he realizes how easy it is to open the fridge?

My cats used to drive me crazy going into my cupboards. The latches were very old and had busted springs. One day I got fed up and unscrewed the latches, opened up some old pens and got new springs, and installed them. The cats watched this operation. They all understood completely---the party's over. Not one of them even tried to open the cupboard doors ever again! Cats are very intelligent critters.

9. At least your cat has a reasonable objective
One of mine used to turn on the stove by using the knobs as a launching-off point, and could also turn on the water in the kitchen sink.

One day there were dishes in the sink that blocked the drain, and the sink flooded with hot water that leaked all the way down my three-story apartment building, knocking out all the electricity in the back.

The landlords didn't believe that the cats did it. We didn't have pets when I was growing up, and I could scarcely believe it myself.
