CONFESS!!!! The one song you hate recorded by your all time favorite band
We all have our all-time favorite groups or singers. For me it's Led Zeppelin - I worship all things done by Led Zeppelin except one song...

I FREAKING HATE HATE HATE 'STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN'!!! If the song comes on the radio, I flip stations immediately. For me to listen to LZIV, I always skip over that song. I would probably think the fourth album was the best but it has that horrible song on it.

What is your favorite band and what song did they record that you absolutely hate

:D

1. Creep - Radiohead
In one sense it's good because it's the song that made them become known and we may not have had an OK Computer or Kid A without it, but man that song is so below them. Pablo Honey as a CD isn't as bad as it has a rap for, but Creep just isn't a good song.

I love Andy Partridge, I think he's a genius. But I always want to kick him in the butt and tell him to "dry it up" when I hear that song.

The radio just played it to death. It would not have been too bad without the over exposure. I don't understand why they chose that one song to play. There are much better Black Sabbath songs as far as I'm concerned.

31. Yes, a plodding song, but...
Brian May's superb guitar solo at the end almost makes up for it. Doesn't help that "We Will Rock You" moves right into "We Are the Champions," which I can't stand. But for me, "Bicycle" is a Queen song I never have to hear again, ever.

28. Me too...
The lyrics aren't exactly deep---what does "Tangerine" even mean, in relation to the rest of the song? Some woman's nick-name? But it's a mellow, melancholy, minor-key acoustic number, and I can still listen to it now, 25 years after I first heard Led Zep III.

By the Beatles on the White album.

I sure wished John had left Yoko at home and out of the studio.

12. The Kinks: (Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman
Their 80s comeback hit. It ain't no "Apeman." They did so many good songs that just stayed on albums, and then something like "Superman" breaks out.

The kicker was seeing that song performed by Bert Parks the very last time he hosted the Miss America Pageant. :scared: Oh, the ignominy.

20. Wow....
"Peggy-O" is one of my favorite Dead songs! I've got a few versions from 1974 that are just heartbreakingly beautiful....So you'd take another version of "Me and My Uncle" or "Around and Around" over "Peggy-O?!?" Weird.

And "Greggary Peccary" is a MASTERPIECE! That one has turned a few friends into rabid Zappaholics. Frank meticulously assembled that one with such excruciating care; it was obvious he thought it was special. One of my favorite Zappa epics.

And "Tangerine?" My god, why do people hate that song? It's so beautiful!

Wow, I'm like your total opposite.

(Never heard the Tull song, so...)

18. Zappa: "Tryin' to Grow a Chin."
Edited on Fri Feb-27-04 10:02 AM by RandomKoolzip
Okay, the song's just not that great to begin with. Then Frank puts out FOUR different versions of the damn thing on four different albums! Sheik Yerbouti, YCDTOSA, vol. 1, YCDTOSA, vol. 6, and the Lather box! It features nothing musically interesting and I've never been a fan of Terry Bozzio's vocal "stylings." So this one I ALWAYS skip over when playing my Zappa CDs.

He also put out three different versions of "Advance Romance," but since that one at least has an extended, improvised guitar solo, you can make the claim that it's an informed decision. The versions of "Tryin' to Grow a Chin" feature no guitar solos, and were all performed by essentially the same 1976-7 lineup...except the one on YCDTOSA, vol.1, which is by the 1979 band with Denny Walley on vocals. Why, Frank? Why not a version of "Inca Roads" from early 1979? Or a "Zoot Allures" from 1982? Or a completely unreleased song, like "Portuguese Lunar Landing?" Or some more early Mothers material? Sometimes I think he was a little out of touch with his fanbase.

My other favorite band, Guided by Voices, has put out LOTS of obvious filler. I have often mulled over making mix tapes of the bad shit and calling it "The Worst of Guided by Voices." It's just that the good stuff is SO good that it makes a drooling fanboy like me pretty forgiving. Although I think that "The Old Grunt" really ruined the flow of one of my fave GbV Cds, "Mag Earwhig!", so I guess I'll vote for that one.

48. If you can download song by song, and their whole catalog is
available (and it's a large catalog, over 20 albums so far), start with any of these tunes:

Echoes Myron
Motor Away
I Am a Tree
Jane of the Waking Universe
Quality of Armor
The Brides have Hit Glass
Glad Girls
Teenage FBI
The Best of Jill Hives
Your Name is Wild

Or get the entire "Alien Lanes" album first. Sorry you didn't like it....sometimes they grow on ya though.

Maybe the instrumental version of "Letter to Memphis" the Pixies put out as a B-side in '91. What a half-assed attempt at filler (fer Chrissakes, the lead just copies the vocal melody from the album track -- no imagination at all).
