2 bug questions: 1, what are THESE? and 2, is THIS what ate the canna plant?

The first 2 pics are the same, the first right side up, the other upside down because I didn't know that it didn't matter since some of the bugs were both up and down.

Sorry they're not clear, but enlarging them even more would just be blurrier. They have tiger stripes all over their mid-sections, prominent and thick antennae, and at the rear(?) end have two squiggly black marks running up-and-down parallel.

They're cute, so I hope nobody tells me they are some dastardly critter.




Then the 3rd pic is the first evidence I've had of what ATE, in a massacreing/slaughtering way (if those terms can be used on a salad), the canna plant (4th pic) soon after the poor thing had flowered for the first time. It didn't kill the plant, just left the stalks standing like a bundle of celery.

Anyway, so it's the (crysalis?), correct? And now some (moth?) is flying around looking beautiful, yes? (Or maybe not, if the lifespan of the moth is short.)
