What time is "too early" on a Sunday morning to fire up the mower?
It's 8:00 AM right now, and I'm going to mow the lawn. I would've started an hour ago, but I figured that it was too early to make noise and disturb my neighbors.

Should I give it another hour? Two?

5. I dunno.
I rarely wake up this early on the weekend, so I've never really thought about it.

2. I would wait until 9, personally.
You could get away with 8 or even 7 pretty easily during the week, but I dunno about Sunday after everyone was out partying last night.... :)

16. after 9, and don't use that dastardly leaf blower or weed whacker either!
it was hilarious when people here were mowing grass that had quit growing and was turning brown - I have never understood that.

3. Wait until about 10:30 or 11:00 am and you will only disturb the heathens.
Then you can just offer them(us) a little hair of the dog(vodka for me, please) and their hangovers will go away some, at least. Problem solved. :P

8. Hey. *I'M* a heathen too!
I usually stay in bed until 11:00 on Sunday, but I woke up early today and I feel like getting some shit done in the yard. (totally out of character for me, BTW)

11. In that case, let her rip!
If the neighbors complain, tell them they shouldn't be in bed all day long on Sunday, then laugh. I've done that before.

Fuck 'em! They didn't mind lighting the firecrackers on the July 4th weekend starting at 8:00 when I was trying to sleep late.

4. Get one of those old fashioned mowers with no engine and do it whenever you want
A less snarky reply would be 10:00 AM local time unless it's going to be really really hot where you live by that time

Maybe when the current mower dies a painful death...

18. We just got one when we moved into this rental house
I'm fat so I burn lots of a calories using it. :p And it's nice to not have to worry about getting gas (gas cans have some personal vendetta against me).

10. Maybe I'll start with the weed-whacker.
It's electric, so it doesn't make a whole lot of noise. That sounds reasonable, right?

14. If there is still dew on the lawn
it is too early. :) (tm Dad)

But yeah, anything before 9 a.m. on a weekend is too damn early even if the grass is dry.

15. I dunno.
I mow mine at night...7-8PM. It's supposed to be better for the grass or something. I just think there isn't crap on TV from 6-9PM and the sound keeps the bears away.

21. 9am is nice... but in the heat of summer....
... sometimes you got to mow at 7am because at 9am it's too bloody hot!

But then I cure the problem for me: I outsource the mowing job to "independent contractors". Yes, that's right, my neighbour's teenagers get bribed to trim the grass. Plus they won't get up before 9am on a non-school day anyway. They'll mow at 6-7pm.

Mark.

22. anything before noon
or if you are a nice neighbor, 3.

On the other hand, you could be like our neighbors. No grass to mow, so instead they wash each of their cars several times a week. Starting between 7-8 am. Their cars each possessing rather over sized stereos that must be pumped loudly to hear. The stereos which, because we are in a plex and through the garage which MUST be left open during washing, turn our entire house into a reverb chamber. Its lovely. The kids outside screaming until 11 pm last night was a nice touch as well.

Personally, I say noontime. That way it wakes me up in time to get ready for kickoff. :)

I hate people who mow early in the morning and I'm ALWAYS up at the crack of dawn.

28. in my humble opinion any time before 6 AM is too early
Edited on Sun Oct-12-08 05:51 PM by pitohui
8 AM is fine -- MORE THAN FINE

my answer may be locational, but for health reasons, folks in southern louisiana need to do yard work for a large part of the year before 8 AM to avoid overheating (esp. older folks)and i never heard anyone complain as long as the yard work as not started before 6

if it's part of the culture you just sleep thru it, at least i do

people who do yard work between 10 AM and 4 PM actually worry me in the summer, chance of heat stroke is more worrisome than a little noise, methinks

do it now, the day gets no younger

35. Whenever the grass dries out, screw the neighborhood. I heard
people in Alaska will mow grass sometimes 2 or 3 in the am since it is daylight 24 hours in the summer..

36. 10:00 seems reasonable.
Or, earlier, if you're looking for a plausible reason to irritate the neighbors. I don't think anybody could seriously complain about 8:00 or 9:00, but you know how people are.
