5. Well the Bible tells a story of rape by the Holy Spirit.
Mary questioned carrying the child. She question why God chose her, etc...per the Bible.

2. Hey, what're you talking about? He's God Jr.
He's the Holy Ghost too. He plooked Mary and had himself in a pre-natal Oedipal act that beggars explanation.

Me? I think he was a guy who lived, ran afoul of the monied clergy, and got a splashier than usual version of the usual treatment when you do such a thing.

7. Is that your opinion, or a command?
I chose other, because I don't know. The other options were discussed in another thread, and I wanted to see what others thought.

8. The parents of Jesus Christ, I believe, are Paganism and the Messiah myth
I just read a fascinating, highly convincing book on the subject: "The Jesus Mysteries: Was the Original Jesus a Pagan God?" by Timothy Freke and Peter Gandy, two British scholars of Paganism.

12. Considering that Paganism is a blanket term for over 2500
different religions, I'd say "expert" is a bit of s stretch. Most religions define paganism as anything that is not their chosen path.
What do these people think of a charlatans like Alistair Crowley or Gerald Gardner, whose Wiccan "religion" is a bastardized mish mash that has nothing to do with traditional witchcraft?

13. These guys are scholars, not "experts."
And their subject is classical paganism of the antiquities, which was the religion of that time in the Mediterranean.

23. I voted for Panthera but
Paganism and the Messiah myth is at least equally attractive, BurtWorm.
Could 'Jesus' have had 3 parents?

9. Always thought that if Jesus was Son of God that it must be
because of who his MOTHER was, not his father....

There are some interesting Mediterrnanean religions cult stories claiming he was Jesus son of Panthera, a Roman centurion.

10. I don't know, but IMO it's not God.
That doesn't mean I don't believe he existed, or that he lived an exemplary life worth emulating on many levels.

14. Mark
The story of Jesus begins with Mark. His is the first reference to the man. Beyond that we cannot know. We are left with only supposition.

17. So technically, Jesus was not related to David
which means he didn't meet one of the essential criteria for messiah-hood. Right?

21. Joachim, according to the Catholic tradition
The idea of the immaculate conception of Mary is that God didn't place "the stain of original sin" upon her soul.

http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/15464b.htm
<snip>
Some of these writers add that the birth of Mary was obtained by the fervent prayers of Joachim and Anna in their advanced age. As Joachim belonged to the royal family of David, so Anna is supposed to have been a descendant of the priestly family of Aaron; thus Christ the Eternal King and Priest sprang from both a royal and priestly family <30>.
<snip>

The thing that I don't understand is the focus on the birth and death of Jesus, I would think that his life and his teachings would be more important to followers. :shrug:

20. If you believe Jesus is the Christ, then the answer is God
Now, if you ask "Who is the father of Jesus?", then you have a poll question.
