Name the kitten
a friend of ours called this afternoon, with our work schedules, we haven't spoken in awhile. She called to ask if we knew anyone that wanted a kitten.

she lives on a farm and people are always dropping off cats. A pregnant female was dropped off there a couple of months ago, the kittens are now ready to go. The mom has already been adopted and will be going to a forever home as soon as homes for the kittens are found.

ennywhoo... we are going over there sunday and bringing home a kitten. there is a calico that sounds adorable, my partner has a soft spot for calicos

I know it's hard naming a pet without seeing it, but I'm looking for suggestions. My partner is adverse to giving animals "people" names.

6. My cats are named "Flea Taxi & Chairman Meow"

I would suggest Hairy or Hairyett???

Hairball?

Mr. Bill?

"Pussy". (a name that always made me chuckle when watching the soprano's)

Have fun with the name because the sad fact of the matter is they will not respond to it. You would be better off naming it "kitty". Cats aren't like dogs, they come to you when they feel like it or when the can opener is running!

8. I love the little guys- best 200 dollars I ever spent!
I found them after being pulled over by a Tennessee State trooper for speeding. I actually smiled when I paid that ticket.

11. Brouhaha.
If another cat ever adopts us, that's gonna be the name. "Bru" sounds cool as a nick, too.

12. If it's a girl name her Bonnet
as in calico bonnet.;) I read that it's rare, but there are male calicos.
I've given the two cats I've had staccato sounding names, 'Mr. Ticket' (aka 'Mistah Tehhk') and
'Tidbit' (aka 'Bitty') because they seemed to notice t or k sounds more than softer sounds.

15. Gosh, I'm just the opposite re names
I'm averse to giving pets adjectives or descriptives as names. Just doesn't feel right. It reminds me of the way we humans have of reserving self hood for our own selves and denying it to other living beings. I remember people arguing when I was a (Catholic) kid that you couldn't give "people" names to pets because they had no souls. I really suffered over the fact that my aunt's great dog Blackie could not go to heaven because he wasn't made in God's image. But he was made by GOD, I'd argue plaintively. Arguments like that echo things like "the word marriage should be reserved for a union of one man and one woman" to me." The rest of you can call whatever you are doing something else if you have to" kind of thing. All my kitties have proper names, and I tend to go for ones that carry some gravitas. But that's just my hobbyhorse. I don't think that a person who calls his dog Blackie loves him any less than someone who calls his dog Jerome.

But in the end you give her a name that you can imagine yourself yelling out across the yard, or cooing in the bed, and one that she might deign to respond to. I think you might have some names in mind but when you see the kitty you'll know that some choices just seem more "right" than others.

18. I once had this strange looking cat named Calico.
It was mostly silver tabby and white, but had a distinct patch of yellow tabby on one leg and tortoiseshell in some spots. I've never seen another cat like her. She was a cool cat. I miss her. Her name was Calico and she was a real sweetheart.

We named her Sundae. I don't know why, but I liked it (The others were Hugs, Cuddles, and Kisses (I was ten). But I guess Sunday is a real name now that Nicole Kidman named her daughter that. :)
