4. Yes,
especially at a certain family's large gatherings. I think everyone feels like this at some time or another. Not a nice feeling.

12. I know for a fact I'm undervalued, unrespected...
...and no one would notice if I were not there.

But I don't care. Life's too short, and mine's at least half over.

No time, man. No time.

13. Stop watching TV (so much)
It makes a huge difference. You can get out and do something interesting instead of rotting at home.

Trust me.

i work an awful lot. i know lisa is a great person, but she doesnt always notice how much i work.

in my old dept at work, people literally stole my ideas and took credit for them, it was delightful

now, while that doesnt happen, my work is still a bit unrewarding.

20. Yes, happens more than I care for it to
I can be very introverted and people often mistake that for being a "lesser light." x( So, I sometimes get talked to as if I were in Junior High instead of an adult in middle age.

That's when I go do something else if I can. Or cry myself to sleep.

29. Jah. Hubby and I live 3,000 miles from our 'family"
we have noted to each other on many occasions that we could be dead most likely for months before anyone in our family noticed our absence. In fact, the only thing that would notify people of our untimely demise is any stench that came from our rotting corpses. However, the only other person that lives on our floor in our condo building is 3 doors away, and the building is pretty well insulated. So technically we could be dusty little mummies before anyone realized.

Hub's mom called the other week and was like "I haven't heard from you kids in months" and Mr. Hed's like "yeah, amazing how we are the only people on the planet with the ability to make out-going calls from our telephone :eyes: "

35. Oh I can truly relate
here. I moved in spring and invited my siblings to see my new place. They've been "too busy". I stopped asking. I'm tired of being the the one to always reach out.

So, if something would happen to me, my family would never know it. *sigh*

that's just how I felt today. I've been substitute teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade English for the past month for a young teacher who has been on maternity leave. I needed some help with the computer system she uses in one of her reading classes and have been trying for weeks to arrange for her to spend just a few minutes explaining the ins and outs of it to me. Today she finally showed up - after the principal agreed to pay her $100.00 for her time - and was downright rude, treating me like I was a big pain in the ass instead of the person who has assumed full responsibility for her classes and workload. Then a couple of the other teachers came in to say hello to her and they all just completely ignored me - just breezed right past as if I was invisible.

As a sub I'm used to being disrespected by the students, but the shoddy treatment by the teachers is even worse.

So, yes, I know and understand exactly what you are saying - undervalued and disrespected - absolutely.

36. No, but probably only because I'm a conceited, egotistical narcissist.
You have to take the time that you aren't working for The Man and do things you want to do, please yourself. Fuck what other people think of you, "they don't know what they're missing" is the way you have to look at it. Take yourself out to a movie, do a hit of ecstasy, get a pet. Do something pleasurable on a whim. Life is too short to give a damn about what other people think and not enjoy what time you have.

37. Every single day.
No family that gives a shit . . .

Very few friends (that's partially my fault, I'll admit) . . .

A boss who hates my guys and is screwing me at every turn . . .

The only time I'm content is when I'm at home, alone, just me and the dog.

The times we're living in don't help much either--I don't see much of a future for me at all.

Most days I feel like the trash left by the side of the road.
