1. Wow...
I used to be able to answer this question without hesitation...

Lawful Evil was always my answer. No flinching, no nothing. Now I have to actually ponder it...

Damnation.. love has messed my head all up! :loveya:

12. I disagree..
as a former member of that alignment..

I think they are Neutral Evil. They obey the law as it suits them, however they freely ignore that law when it suits them.

Lawful Evil typically have honor.

2. Chaotic Good
I'd almost be Lawful Good, except that I do not see the virtue of obeying laws simply because they *are* laws. If the law is wrong I'll break it to do good.

5. another tactics ogre fan...
i see it like this:

Lawful Good: true Evangelical Christians like Jimmy Carter and populist Democrats
Neutral Good: standard Democrats
Chaotic Good: anarchists, rebels, far left extremists
True Neutral: just what the name says, opportunists
Lawful Evil: Fascists, authoritarians, neocons
Neutral Evil: Like the Freepers, want the government out in certain areas, want more government in others
Chaotic Evil: Randians and Objectivists

I'd be Chaotic Good

22. It's been awhile, but my impression is True Neutrals are Buddhists
rather than opportunists. They are largely disengaged from the problems of this world and look for balance rather than their own good.

In my better moments, I'm true Neutral leaning towards Chaotic Good.

14. I voted "Chaotic Neutral."
I was scared as a kid of "Chaotic Neutral." There were no monsters in the Manual or the Folio who were CN that I remember...the alignment scared me..."You mean, CNer's just don't give a shit about ANYTHING?!?" I couldn't wrap my brain around that one...

I was always Lawful Good, cuz I was always a pussy.

29. Hee.
I've never really been satisfied with the rulebooks' explanations of the various alignments, especially chaotic neutral. The 2E PHB makes it sound like CNs are total nutjobs who don't place any kind of meaning to any actions, they just kind of run around like crackmonkeys. Sorta like Toon players. As a DM I can remember some "munchkin" types liking CN because they thought it meant they didn't have to roleplay...they could just do whatever they wanted. That was a pain in the ass.

The only LG PC I ever ran was out of necessity, a paladin I had years ago when I played 1E in grade school. That was a real challenge from an RP perspective. I've always gravitated towards CG characters (especially rangers). My current PC is a CG Drow Ranger/Mage/Sword Dancer (specialty priest of the good Drow goddess, Eilistraee). On the first adventure the group went on, my friend DM'd the classic "baby orc" moral dilemma and my character had to talk the others out of killing the baby orcs. You know you're bad when the *Drow* in the party is the voice of mercy, LOL.

23. That's hair-splitting...
Being the stickler for the rules I am...

The alignment system is pretty clear cut...

While you can make the case for following "higher moral" laws etc. it results in madness.

Of course the entire alignment system is bunk to begin with. Most Nazi's in WW2 would have thought themselves to be Lawful Good.

My 2 cents anyway.

Edited on Fri Feb-27-04 02:31 AM by foamdad
is more the way you interact with the system around you, as opposed to your own personal code of conduct? Personnaly I prefer the latter to the former. The fact that my alignment jibes with most of the laws here is pure serindipity.

Alignment, bunk? Its about as useful as religion.

28. I think it is supposed to be a little of both...
If you are lawful neutral though, you would dutifully obey the law, regardless of whether it was good or evil.

If you are LG you obey the law. A truly evil law though *might* be broken if the greater good is justified.

It doesn't really matter. In 3rd edition rules you can change alignment freely. Alignment only actually matters for certain classes and for a lot of interaction with spells. :P

It's all a case of give and take, however, in the absolute strictest case, it is a mix of personal code and law of the land.

I think it is to prevent someone from making a character whose alignment is in tune with the rest of the group, yet has a personal code that actually reflects something different...

32. You're right...
I think the actual alignments themselves are rather restrictive. Who can be Lawful Good all the time. I think alignment speaks more to a character's (and in this case, yours)general behavior and moral code. I say LN because I pretty much conform to the laws here in the US, but there are some laws I see as unjust that I chose to ignore :eyes: I don't belive that takes away my generally lawful behavior.

Some laws needed, but 'greatest good for the greatest number' is my creed.

25. Chaotic Good
It's funny, almost every character I've ever run has also been Chaotic Good. I guess it's not really roleplaying then. :) I try to do the right thing but I don't believe in blind adherence to laws, the greater good is more important and sometimes that means going outside the law. Then again, I've always been more of a Batman fan than a Superman fan, too. :)

It's funny you should post this poll, last weekend after me and the (very liberal) nerd herd finished up a 2E session we were talking about various political people and where they would fit on the scale. We all agreed the BFEE are Neutral Evil, and actually that's how I explained the alignment to a friend we just introduced to D&D. :)

35. An okay test, but a number of the questions leave me thinking that
a high school sophomore wrote them.

Quite a few questions that made bold assumptions about heirarchy and ideology that I don't think are helpful or appropriate.

But, overall, it's a good sophomoric 70% best effort.

39. Well, even so, it suggest the level of thinking of, perhaps, a 15-16 year
old.

Like the question about "Do you criticize the king" is a real absolute black and white question, that implies that it is always wrong or always chaotic to question or criticize the king. A lawful character will, yes, follow the king, BUT if that king is clearly wrong, the lawful character will be the first to challenge and criticize.

But that particular question offered only totally unnuanced responses, and I could not answer the question at all.

And a number of other questions were utterly devoid of nuance, and were unanswerable to me.

And nuance would have been very easy to add, and hopefully they will add it soon.

I came up neutral good, which is probably accurate, and perhaps it is the sign of the neautral good character that I would notice how flawed the test was. :-) And I mean that truly seriously.

Edited on Fri Feb-27-04 02:35 AM by Rabrrrrrr
I've made my vote, but let's be honest - our actual alignment is based on how others perceive us, because others can judge us only on our actions, not our thoughts or personal struggles, and hence they are the only objective sources for actually realizing what our true alignment is.

So, DUers, what am I?
