Breast feeding releases a hormone, prolactin that does have a contraceptive effect..its NOT 100% effective obviously but it does have that effect.

Extremely! Believe me, I know! had my first son 6-20-06. Was off work for 8 weeks. To put it lightly, I left work pregnant and went back to work, pregnant. Condom did not do it's job. Thought that the boys would be 11 months apart, HA!!! the youngest had another plan. Decided to be 5-1/2 weeks early. He was born 4-15-07. Putting the two at 9 months and 23 days apart from each other. Days are fun with the two of them sometimes! Needless to say, hubby went in 6 weeks before the youngest was born and got the vas done and out of the way. No more kiddo's for us.
