I want to paint a picket fence in the back yard.

The wood is old and dry. Right now there's white paint on it that's flaking badly, so it's about 20% paint and 80% weathered board.

I want it to look like this:

How do you get that sort of effect?

I can't find a red color that's deep enough, and I'm worried it will flake off and look like hell anyway. If the red flaked off to reveal a darker color instead of gray board, that would be keen.

I was wondering if spray painting it black, then putting down a dark brown, slate, or plum with a glaze, followed by a lighter red with a glaze would work.

Thanks! :hi:
