Holy Crap! Letterman just said Bush entered the White House illegally!
Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 11:47 PM by fujiyama
Anyone here that? That's one of the biggest hits I've heard him make against Bush. Go Letterman!

Here was the joke:

"Today a man hopped over the fence to enter the WH illegally. That's the first time someone has entered the WH illegally, since, well, Bush!"

2. Yes, Letterman is trying to play to...
the crowd he *thinks* will win.

I however remain steadfast in my cynicism.

Bush will not go quietly. He will not lay down the reigns of power without a fight. If he does it will be a hand-off to another corporate puppet.

8. Your right. The fascist will lie, cheat, steal and kill to remain in power
It's going to be tough to drag these fuckers from power and all the money they are stealing.

We have to be tougher...keep your shotgun ready!!!

22. To give Letterman some credit...
he gave Bush a harder pressing interview during the 2000 election than any other so called real reporter ever did. He's no Leno, who is a hack and does pander to whichever side seems to be winning.

I'd be willing to chip in money to see the memo that told these guys (Leno, Letterman, etc) that you can make jokes about bush now....

7. bush was on Dave's show B4 the selection, and Dave hit him hard
went something like:

Dave: so how will you _______ (don't remember)

bush: smirking like his face would cave in - "fake it"

Dave: pretty much the way you'll run the country!

I'll have to go dig up the actual quote, but Dave was giving bush hell from the begining.

9. CBS News: "Bush Bombs on Letterman" - he did, and Dave let him have it
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2000/03/01/politics/main166937.shtml
(CBS) George W. Bush appeared via satellite Wednesday night on CBS's The Late Show with David Letterman. The GOP presidential front-runner managed to get off a few quips, but he bombed with a pair of tasteless remarks about Letterman's recent heart surgery.

Letterman asked Bush how he withstands the stress of campaigning: "How do you look so youthful and rested?"

With a shrug of the shoulders, Bush responded glibly: "Fake it." Letterman came back with: "And that's pretty much how you're going to run the country?"

Bush then felt that it was his turn to give Letterman a hard time. Dave began "Let me remind you of one thing, governor: the road to Washington runs through me."

Bush shot back with "It's about time you had the heart to invite me," an apparent reference to Letterman's recent bypass heart surgery.

Amid boos from the audience, Letterman shook his head: "You're winning delegates left and right, governor."

Leaving that joke, Letterman brought up one of Bush's many slogans: "You often say: I'm a uniter, not a divider. What does that mean?"

Without hesitation, Bush continued to goad Letterman: "It means when it comes time to sew up your chest cavity, we use stitches as opposed to opening it up." The remark produced more boos from the audience.

she said she had no idea that he was doing it at the time (she was talking to Dave). Paul said the action was "a good thing" because it showed that * was "comfortable with people". :eyes:

13. What an asshole!
I read on here last night that Howard Stern made some remarks about Bush before his show got yanked from quite a few stations. Hope this doesn't happen to Dave!

15. It's possible Letterman might lose affiliates, but
it's not like he lays into Bush for an entire show. Stern did just that; devoting practically a whole show to laying into Bush.

CBS couldn't afford the backlash that would result from pulling Letterman off the air.
