Head On: Jesus and Mary Chain or Pixies?
Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 10:40 PM by dolo amber

I gotta go with the Pixies; it jsut ROCKS like...a really rocky thing!:headbang:

Yeah Yeah Yeah...

:D

As soon as I get my head 'round you
I come around catching sparks off you
I get an electric charge from you
That second hand living it just won't do

And the way I feel tonight
I could die and I wouldn't mind
And there's something going on inside
Makes you want to feel makes you want to try
Makes you want to blow the stars from the sky
I can't stand up I can't cool down
I can't get my head off the ground

As soon as I get my head round you
I come around catching sparks off you
And all I ever got from you
Was all I ever took from you

And the world could die in pain
And I wouldn't feel no shame
And there's nothing holding me to blame
Makes you want to feel makes you want to try
Makes you want to blow the stars from the sky
I'm taking myself to the dirty part of town
Where all my troubles can't be found

Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 10:48 PM by BigMcLargehuge
the Pixies are the most overrated and undertalented lot of indy rockers this side of Pavement. Every song sounds the same, every album sounds the same, Frank Black is a good writer but a shitty guitar player. If I want to listen to 4-track 3-chord crap guitar rock I can throw on The Kingsmen. They, mercifully, only have one record.

I had to play them over and over and over again when I was a DJ in college (1990-1992) and their status as indy stars overshadowed thousands of better bands.

The Pixies, quite frankly, suck.

There I said it.

32. Kind of agree
I absolutely loved Doolittle but felt like Bossanova and Trompe le Monde were merely pale imitations. They had some good singles but that was about it.

Please don't kill me.

"4-track 3-chord"? BigMcLargehuge must not play an instrument or else needs to get his ears checked. :P

Their reunion shows are going to kick ass!

18. I heard "Snakedriver" the other day.
The J&MC song off of the "The Crow" soundtrack.

So today, I'm going with the Jesus and Mary Chain.

Although, I'd rather stare at Kim all day, rather than either of those guys.

25. Did my comment look as gay as I think it did?
I mean on a purely aesthetic criteria, of course. Not that there's anything wrong with that sort of thing.:-) I'm not gay. They can't prove that was my copy of Cabaret! Those Barbra Streisand CD's are purely for research!

P.S. Isn't one of the Reid brothers gay.

26. I don't recall
ever hearing one of them was gay, but then again there are lots of things from that period I don't recall. :D

And no, I didn't read it as seeming gay, ya big studly lady-killer. :P;)

23. The JAMC for me.
However I've only been introduced to the Pixies formally a few days ago. Before then, they were more of a friend of a friend thing. JAMC and I have been drinking buddies since college.

30. Depends.
If I'm driving late at night, in the rain, JAMC.

If I want to be cheered up, Pixies -- their version of "Head On" makes it IMPOSSIBLE to be in a bad mood.

As an aside to BigMcLargehuge, Charles is one hell of a guitarist. That brother can rip some far-gone rhythms. Joey, on the other hand, was never much on the six-string; but he does excell at making a godawful racket (which I tend to like).

Kim Deal and Dave Lovering were a hell of a rhythm section. Kim's bass playing was often overshadowed by her hotness (and by the fact that she didn't play bass with the Breeders), but she was damn good. And Dave never gets the recognition he deserves.

Oh -- and listen to "Vamos" and "The Navajo Know" back-to-back, then tell me all the songs sound the same. :)

31. The Jesus and Mary Chain
The laconic singing style is perfectly matched to the lyrics. The Pixies version loses that element.
