Why is it that I'm always a second too late on the reply button

I've gotten used to not responding, because by the time I do, someone else has already said my semi-witty remark, and I don't want to just write something like

"uh-huh!" or "you got that right"

Any ideas on what to write when I have nothing to add to the original message or a reply, but want to reply? I'm tired of just reading most of the time!
