Wow, 3 firewalls and somebody could still find me
The Actiontec 1524 has a built in firewall.

I use SuSE Linux Firewall.

In my windows emulation, as I type this, I have Norton Internet security.

Ever since I got DSL installed, I hadn't had one intrusion attempt.

Until today.

Beats the snot compared to the 56k days when Norton intercepted several possible attacks DAILY.

Now let's hope the Linksys firewall I bought is compatible with PPPOA... pity the netgear device wasn't, that was otherwise a decked out model.

1. I've had good luck with my linksys
I think you'll like it. It's been able to do everything I need it to, and still keep people out.

2. Is it the linksys with the wireless
? That's the one we have. My roomate is the one with the laptop, and doesn't have it secured. I can't wait till someone launches an attack from hopping on his IP

4. Yeah it has it built in
especially cuz he has XP too and I think that has something on it not sure though, but refuses to use it. We are in Nowhere, WI- so it's not too big of a deal. I work for the tech place on campus at UWRF. We go around with the laptop shutting down people on campus with our laptop. Kinda fun:) Maybe if we get really bored we'll packet sniff and read some emails :)

5. there are at least 2-3 weak ap's in my apartment complex..
I like to borrow my neighbor's bandwidth from time to time! Have your roomie change the SSID as well from the default 'linksys'.

6. you forgot to add my favorite Doctor onto your signiture..the valeyard.
The Master said it best "But the Valeyard..a distillation of you untainted by virtual. A composite of your every dark thought is a different proposition."

As far as firewalls and identity goes, the only people who have broken through my firewalls are fools. 50 Firewalls will never keep out a determined hacker! And most already know how to protect themselves only against these rabid freaks, and do this with a cool little surprise for me waiting at the other end of the line! :wow:
