So I just saw an advert for the new "The Day the Earth Stood Still"
This is a movie near and dear to me (as much as a movie can be) and when I heard Keanu Reeves was cast I despaired. I'm not opposed to remakes even for favorite films if they're done well - but that doesn't often happen.
So I have avoided any preview trailers on the web or whatever assuming the worst. I just saw a trailer on AMC and the effects and setting looked interesting enough (as expected) but the last line in the trailer "If the Earth dies you die. If you die the Earth survives." something like that and any optomism I had had how Mr Reeves handled the earlier bit when he was being interogated was dashed.
That line makes me think they've completely twisted the theme (which is fine but then they should use a different title) and if I'm wrong about that I'm not wrong at how horrible that delivery seemed at least int he context of the character of Klaatu as conceived and portrayed in the original movie.
