New job- working for a bi-polar boss?
What kind of fun can I expect when I start my new job Monday? I will be with the same company in a different department. I am easy going and can get along with anyone (so far). I know one of his friends and he told me about his condition. Others that work in the area describe him as "moody". I really want to get along with this guy and make the best of the situation.

Does anyone have advice on how to handle this situation? I would be able to go back to my old job if forced, and the company is a large multi-national with strict rules regarding termination.

2. And when he goes into mania.....
keep your head low, and weather the storm. Try and stay out of harms way. And whatever you do, don't argue during mania, wait until he comes out of it in a few days.

3. I worked for a year with a bi-polar person...
In looking back I wish that I had had stronger boundaries
because this person was quite invasive, largely I think
because she had weak boundaries herself. She seemed to confuse reality
with what was in her head on a pretty serious level. She was also always either
way up or way down, mood-wise.

If there are bi-polar DUers who read this, I hope I have not offended you.
This was my experience.

5. Hopefully the boss is taking his meds
Bipolar is not a condition to let go untreated. I have schizoaffective disorder. It's a mixture of bipolar and schizophrenia. As long as I'm taking my meds, I'm cool. Really easy to get along with. Very laid back. When I stop taking my meds I become reclusive, paranoid and difficult to relate to.

I say treat him like a normal person. Regard him the same way you would regard any other boss. Don't worry about his condition. If he starts treating you with anything other than what is customary, then it might be time to start thinking about a transfer.

Chances are that he's harmless even if his illness is going untreated. Harmless to everyone except himself that is.
