8. Hah no... of course not. Just find it interesting to consider...
we've moved from living like pack animals to using tools and assessing consequences and altering our behavior accordingly... some huge steps forward there. Is it unreasonable to think that the selectiveness of females when choosing a mate could have had anything to do with it? Then again the popular image is of a caveman doing the choosing ... so who knows?

9. i think that creating societies & economies has to a degree hampered with evolution
we maybe could have shaped men physically, if we were not for years dependent on them financially

11. Yup!
That's the catch, isn't it? Uncertainties about cavemen's possible roles aside... for centuries now, we've been sort of not on the deciding end of things, have we?

14. height in men?
I could see height going up in some societies because women have (in general of course) a preference for taller guys.
This works the other way as well---women have been selected for bigger breasts because of male preference..probably because at one point in time, larger breasted women could produce more milk
and therefore healthier offspring..
I am endlessly fascinated by sexual selection--I studied it a lot in college...

15. About breasts...
I read that human females are the only mammal whose breasts don't swell only after she becomes pregnant... although cows seem a glaring ommission... or do their udders not look like that before pregnancy? But I digress.... anyway from what I've read, this has been theorized as a way to increase the likelihood of a male partnering up as it always seems that the female is pregnant.

But yes... bigger breasts, wider hips = better likelihood of producing offspring... that's the conventional wisdom on that one, I think.

Can you tell I find this stuff pretty fascinating myself? :P

17. You ever read anything about bower birds?
They have FASCINATING sexual behavior..and in some ways, it reminds me of human behavior..But its weird what the females find attractive..In one species, the Satin Bowerbird, the females are most attracted to the males who have the most blue parrot feathers at their bower (a structure of sticks that a male builds to attract females). What survival value do blue parrot feathers have?
Who knows...:)

18. Yes!
I like the species in which the male does the little alternating raised-wing dance best though... recently my daughters asked me why the boys in school act so tough to impress girls, when they're only children and obviously not tough soldiers or anything like that... I used the bird dance as a way to explain.

19. At one point in college..
I could have been considered one of the world's foremost experts on Great Bower Bird behavior?
I spent a summer watching tapes of mating behavior for a professor..it was quite interesting mostly..although sometimes I would get headaches when I would have to count the number of times the male would screech before mating....
If anyone else on this board had any job like that one, I'd be surprised..
