23. That's funny, I thought we were friends with Pakistan and India.
Should I call my grandparents and tell them to expect to be bombed now?

22. You just haven't had the right stuff
You probably had that swill they sell in jars.

No, you need the Clay Pot Glengarry Glen Ross of KimChii! The stuff that's been fermenting for a year...

by stinking up the whole neighborhood making from scratch was the real deal.

25. Yeah...that's probably it
The in-laws have made it from scratch a few times, and yeah, it stinks up the neighborhood. Especially on a hot summer day.

But I do like it :)

18. i did buy it but havent read it yet
here are the reviews:

regimes the world has to offer, and a savory rendering of their cookery. Chris Fair by turns channels Richard Holbrooke, Steven Colbert, and Elizabeth David as she whisks up up a truly original contribution in the field of international relations and cook books."
--Peter Bergen, author of The Osama bin Laden I Know

"Chris Fair's treatise on America's enemies--real and imagined--is just the remedy and recipe for a host of foreign policy failures."
--Ann Louise Bardach, author of Cuba Confidential and Without Fidel

"Fair combines the culinary mastery of Iron Chef with the biting and acerbic wit of Jon Stewart's Daily Show in a snarky romp through some of the world's most picturesque and problematic hot spots. "
--Timothy Hoyt, professor of strategy and policy, U.S. Naval War College

"A hefty helping of historical background on some of the world's most notorious states, complete with a side of sarcastic wit and criticism about the foreign policies of Bush, Kim, Castro, and the gang. The book features real recipes, ranging from culinary delights like Salat Gezer (Israeli carrot salad) to Burmese Phazun Hin Asa (spicy shrimp curry)--a must-read for foreign affairs junkies and foodies alike.
--Foreign Policy

20. my husband loves kimchi.
I make it for him on occasion - w/o the fish paste - just lots of garlic and hot red pepper. Not bad that way - the aroma is less offensive.

Actually, if it's 'blended' with a good bowl of rice and some soy sauce and thin sheets of seaweed, it can be quite good. :D

8. I heard the author interviewed by Ian Masters a couple weeks ago.
She was very funny, and her knowledge about food was equaled only by her knowledge of politics. It sounds like she had a blast researching and traveling to put together the book.

and although the stuff can look and smell nasty, there's not a kimchi I've tried that I did not like. :9
