My kitten died last night

A few months ago, she was diagnosed with FeLV. I posted a thread about it at the time, but I was too upset to even respond to anyone.

She was doing good for a while, but in the past month or so, she's lost a huge amount of weight, and as a result, no longer has the strength to play or do acrobatic cat-like things (like jump up and down from chairs). She fell from a chair a few days ago and sprained her hand.

Eric and I both decided that today was the day we'd have to bring her in to the vet to have her put to sleep; she had taken a marked turn for the worse two nights ago. She didn't make it, and she died in her sleep last night.

Bertha and I had to have one of "our" feral cats euthanized a few weeks ago. The heartbreak from losing an animal companion is beyond description.

We brought her body to the vet this morning for cremation. When we got back to the car we both just cried and cried. I'm doing better, but her brother keeps searching the apartment looking for her. He was never very fond of her, except in the past few weeks. He knew something was up.

When I was a kid, we had to have a cat put to sleep because of that. Even though it was my cat, I'm glad that it was my parents who had to make the decision - I never would have been able to. Bless you for giving the kitty a lovely home while you could.
