Say hello to Rupert (***extreme faint-from-the-cuteness alert***)
Edited on Thu Oct-02-08 07:53 AM by MrsGrumpy

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1065209/Meet-deer-little-handful-called-Rupert-delivered-Caesarean-section-mother-killed-car.html

He is growing up without a mother's love. But this tiny muntjac fawn appears to have a lucky streak nonetheless.

He was born three weeks early after his mother was hit by a car.

Vets battled to save her but she died soon afterwards

The little orphan, delivered by Caesarean section, was just six inches tall and, at 500 grams, weighed little more than a bag of sugar.
It looked like he, too, would face a tough fight for survival.

But staff at Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital in Buckinghamshire believe Rupert, as he has been named, will make a full recovery after his dramatic arrival.

******** Tiggywinkles wildlife Hospital? A bag of sugar?**** I am dying,swooning....falling from the cuteness of this whole dang story.

and, just in case you aren't in full OMG, THAT'S TOO CUTE FOR WORDS mode:

Now if I could just get his friend to get a job. She (no not a girlfriend) moved in a few weekends ago and hasn't been working.

15. Ohhhhhh!
So adorable!

Here's an article about keeping muntjac deer as pets: (My aunt in India adopted a pair of orphan muntjacs and kept them as house pets. The deer lived to be around 15 or so, I think.)

http://animal-world.com/encyclo/critters/MuntjacDeer/MuntjacDeer.php

(snippet)

Many people find these creatures to be excellent pets. Muntjac Deer love affection and give kisses. They are fun to play with, playing tag and racing with you. They become quite attached to their owners. They will follow you thorough out the home.

Muntjac Deer are clean, they smell like newborn human babies. They are litter trained just like a kitten within the first day and there isn’t an odor to the litter. They are very soft and quiet. There is very little shedding. You don’t have to walk them and they don’t make messes. Though they are jumpers, they do not seem to ever jump on the furniture and they can use a doggy door.

The two smaller species, the Leaf Muntjac and Reeves Muntjac, are currently being bred in the United States.

It's quite a long article, with lots of info, including tips on care and feeding.

I wouldn't turn my back on that creature, you know that it would just slit your throat from ear to ear if given half a chance. Thank goodness it does not have opposable thumbs.

32. I emailed a muntjac breeder
for information on buying a baby one. If I hear back, I'll post the info on this thread.

My husband and I have been petless since our beloved bichon Fritty Sue and shih tzu Flower Lou died 4 years ago.

It's illegal in India to have muntjacs as pets, but I think it's been legal here in the U.S. since 1999. I don't know if that varies from state to state, though. It seems to me that in the Pets for Sale area at the website I linked to in my previous post, there's a link to click for that kind of info.

39. I received a reply from the muntjac breeder.
Here it is:

Hello El,

I do breed the Leaf Muntjac deer which are much smaller and tamer than the Indian Muntjac. I sell Bottle baby Muntjacs, which sell for $1,000.00 each, breeders go for $700 - $800. each. Muntjacs only give birth to one fawn each year, usually in the spring. I am located in North Texas but nationwide shipping is available via Delta Airlines.
