It smells like something died in my sink.

I have no idea what the hell could have caused this level of toxicity, but I'm hoping the smell can be killed.

It just so happens that I'm out of bleach at the moment. :eyes:

I will be getting some just as soon as the store opens.

I don't even want to walk in the kitchen. :scared:

that will help if you pour it down the drain.

It worked for a little while, but even the power of 409 is no match for what happened in my sink.

It smells like Dexter dismembered a body and put it through my garbage disposal.

without water and let it set there.

BUt first, run your garbage disposal w/ ice. It helps clean it out.

Spoon baking soda down drain and lemon juice will make it foam up.

10. Is it a sink with a garbage disposal?

If so, grind some lemon and/or lime peelings through it. The always seem to kill any lingering odors.

That's what does it in our sink. It smells worse that a dead rat in the attic in the summer. We don't have a garbage disposal, and the kidlet once took out the trap and dumped the veggies in the veggie omelet she specifically asked for down the sink after "forgetting" we didn't have one (she had just come back from a visit to her bio-mom, who had one as well as a dishwasher) and didn't inform us she had until the smell three days later. It took a week of heavy duty cleaning (since we couldn't afford a plumber) to get everything out.
Even the critters were avoiding the kitchen for a couple days.

12. Baking soda and salt

About half and half. Dump about a cup down the drain, let it sit for a couple of hours, then follow with a kettle full of boiling water.

I forget the name of the valve - we had one go bad several years ago, which let septic tank gases escape into the house. Wiki calls it an AAV (air admittance valve), but I swear there was a name for it when we had to replace ours...

15. Lemons, baking soda, vinegar... even oranges will help.

If you have a disposal, put lemon rinds or orange rinds through it. If you don't have those fruits handy, baking soda and vinegar will help too.

Pour a can down the sink. It dissolves any food particles that are caught down there. Good luck!

21. I went with the old bleach.

I poured it down the drain, ran the disposal, and went to bed.

Woke up, no smell. YAY!
