Johnny Cash Memorial Tribute on CMT
The show will be re-run tonight at 8:30 & tomorrow at 6PM Central Time. Sponsored by the Cash family, shot at the Ryman Auditorium, this is really an excellent show. Friends & family, all the usual suspects do songs Johnny (& June) wrote and/or performed--sacred & profane. Willie Nelson sings "Were You There (When They Crucified My Lord)" with sincere feeling that shames that movie. Kris Kristofferson does "Sunday Morning Coming Down".

There are a few surprises. Tim Robbins is the master of ceremonies--he'd worked with Johnny & does extremely well. Steve Earle plays. Al Gore reads the words to "Man in Black". Kid Rock sings "The Lonely Voice of Youth (Cries What is Truth)" & does not suck; I was amazed. The only red, white & blue is the strap on Willie's beat up guitar.

If you have CMT & have any interest in American Music, I strongly urge you to see this show. I'm hoping a DVD will eventually be offered.

1. I've seen it 3 times;
it's wonderful.

Emmylou and Dave Mathews doing "Long Black Veil" and Johnny himself doing Reznor's "Hurt" - just incredible.

I wish he hadn't gone, but I knew it was just a matter of time after June...

2. They ran this last fall.
It was one of the most moving things I've seen on TV for a long time. Al Gore provided a tribute as well. I recommend it most highly.

3. Liberals take over CMT
I'm bumping this up because I saw the last half of this last night and I really enjoyed it. I was amazed at all the liberals who made an appearance (amazed that it aired on CMT, not that so many liberals would be at a Johnny tribute). The Willie Nelson/Sheryl Crow duet was very cool and inspired them to do an entire concert together which I caught the other night on another CMT show called "Crossroads." It was very good and I recommend it as well.

The Cash tribute airs again tonight so catch it if you can.
