11. I agree.
It is difficult for me to imagine her even reading a paperback romance novel. I'm not a big fan of romance novels, but when I see someone reading them, I think, "Hey, at least they are reading."

Her lack of coherence and inability to form or complete sentences points to the fact that she probably does not read much of anything except maybe the ramblings of Right Wing Propaganda.

27. Seriously, I HAVE READ ALL OF THE LEFT BEHIND BOOKS!
There is about 16 of them total and that is just the adult books. I haven't read the Left Behind: The Kids Series, which I think has 41 books or something. All I can say is "ICK!" The Left Behind books have awful writing and awful theology. The antichrist, Nicolae Carpathia, is shown to be a liberal sort of peacenik who runs the U.N. (the U.N. is of the DEVIL) and wants nuclear disarment. The "heroes" of the story, Rayford Steele and Buck Cameron are incredibly macho fundie christian men, who a sexist and homophobic. Chloe Steele, daughter of Rayford and wife of Buck, is an incredibly whiny heroine.
I felt like I HAD to read them because I was a Religious Studies major and this is what a lot of people think about when they think about christianity.

I am not feeling that well, stomach pain as usual. :hi:

32. Does your doctor have you on some kind of analgesic?
Even something fairly mild for chronic pain?

I only got about thirty pages into the first book before I threw it across the room. I'm a Christian (or try to be, anyway) and that part of me was offended by such a ghoulish, blood-thirsty portrayal of the faith. I appreciate good writing, and that part of me was offended by the awful, slap-dash, juvenile writing. The only part I appreciated was the fact that even though I despise the books, I can choose to read them or not. I never had an urge to burn them. If only the guys on the other side could think that way...

35. Right now I am on birth control and taking ibrofen.
I read them because they were so easy to read. You could read them so fast because there was not much to them. The Left Behind books are based on a lot of christian fundamentalist stereotypes. The characters are a cardboard cutouts, not real people. This makes them easier to understand, but really stupid.

I did not know that you are a christian. What denomination? I was an Episcopalian and did go to church fairly regularly.

38. I'm a Methodist.
I could never be one of those holier-than-thou Bible-thumpers simply because I've got too much sin in my life to go poking around in someone else's life and dictating to them what they should be.

I was so proud of the head of the United Methodist Church when he called upon B*sh to call off the Iraq invasion in 2003. He and hundreds of other religious leaders took a public stand for real Christian values like love, peace and forgiveness. Those things are incomprehensible to the war-mongering let's-all-get-rich-and-go-to-Heaven "Christianists".

40. Bush is a Methodist, but he won't even listen to his own
pastor in Washington, D.C. The pastor was against the war and tried to have a private conference with Bush, but Bush refused.

Bush grew up as an Episcopalian and Poppy and Barb Bush are still Episcopalians. Dubya converted to a very conservative version of Methodism when he married Laura.

As for my own family, my maternal grandfather was an Episcopal priest and my maternal grandmother taught at a parochial, private Episcopalian school. My mom still is an Episcopalian, but a very liberal one. It's my dad's family that is Jewish.

I've never known any Methodists, even fairly conservative ones, who believe the right-wing, end-of-times claptrap that he espouses. And you want to know something interesting? My grandmother, an ultra-ULTRA-conservative Southern Baptist from Alabama...is pro-choice! Despite being a fairly traditional Southern woman in many ways, she's very independent and self-possessed. If she wants to do something, no man, no man, is going to tell her she can't! I like that. B-)

47. That's great about your grandmother.
My maternal grandmother was fairly conservative christian who was against women and openly gay priests, but she was pro-choice and voted for Democrats including Gore and Kerry. She would have voted for Obama, too, if she was still alive. She called African-Americans "Negroes," but she wasn't a racist. She probably would have liked Obama and distrusted McCain. I remember how she couldn't stand Bob Dole. Do you think your grandma is going to vote for Obama?

58. No. She's 91 and her mind is basically gone. I can say for sure she would
never have voted for a black man. Her racism was an innate, unspectacular sort of thing, rather than a violent, reactionary ideology, but racism is racism. She and my grandfather were rural Alabamans. There was almost no chance that they weren't going to grow up around racism and institutionalized bigotry. My mother told me that at least two of her uncles were in the KKK. One of the shames you deal with when your family is from the South. Ah, America's "original sin..."

62. Yes, it is America's Original Sin.
I think my grandmother wasn't a racist because she did work with African Americans in New York City when she was going through Seminary. I never heard her say anything racist, "Negro" just was what she was used to calling African-Americans. I think she would have even voted for Hillary Clinton, even though she was a believer in "a woman's place," just because she hated Bush and his friends.

70. I think "Negro" was considered an acceptable word, and doesn't seem to still
have the pejorative connotations that "colored" still has. Not to mention the "other" n-word. I'm a firm believer in the notion that however a particular enthic group wishes to be referred to collectively, that's how a person should refer to them. I've heard people use really nasty terms for certain ethnic groups, and then dismiss it: "Aw, I jest ain't bein' p'litically correct, 'at's all." I keep away from people like that...

81. I'm firmly in the PFLAG camp. 100% pro-gay rights.
I used to hang out with the gay crowd in Louisville, Kentucky. I had some friends who thought it was rather novel for a "tanker-tough" soldier to be gay-friendly. I just liked being accepted by nice, cool people. I didn't get along with a lot of my fellow soldiers because I like things like poetry, Shakespeare, and classical music. If you didn't go wild for NASCAR and basketball, they thought you were weird.

Anyway, hanging out with the gay crowd had some salutary effects; a lot of straight girls hung out with them, too. I had a good time.

84. Stupid-ass policy. Bill Clinton being a coward. I say that even though
I've admired him most of the time. He should have just gone ahead and let gays serve openly. It would have caused a stir in the ranks for a few weeks, and then they would have gotten over it. Just like they did with desegregation of the Armed Forces in 1948. People say that government institutions shouldn't be instruments of social change; I disagree. I think those organizations are the best places to start with social change.

you watch Serenity. Serenity is a sequel to Firefly. That said, a lot of the story is explained in Serenity, so much that you don't have to see series before hand to understand what is going on.

I think I love the movie "Serenity" just as much as I love the series. Same actors, same characters. :hi:

41. Hey,I feel fine Yankee .

Thanks for the tip but after Googling about it I think I'll watch the 14

episodes.It sounds very interesting.

"The series is set in the year 2517, after humans have arrived at a new star system, and follows the adventures of the renegade crew of Serenity, a "Firefly-class" spaceship. The ensemble cast portrays the nine characters who live on Serenity. Whedon pitched the show as "nine people looking into the blackness of space and seeing nine different things".

It seems to have a huge fan following.

I bet I'll be a member of the club soon.

What about that new Vampire show ?

First blood ?

Is it like Buffy ?

Be it the Bible, Peanuts or the sudoku from the Wasilla times. Shes a reader, to name one is too hard with her brain that goes spongy when she sees print infront of her. Reading the recipes and fashion news is not keeping up with world affairs. She is an insult to women, Hillary was qualified, not this tard.
