Poll question: Favorite song by the Smiths?
Another thread jogged my memory about this great band. Haven't listened to them lately. One of my all-time favs is Oscillate Wildly, although it is an instrumental and not too well known, so I will not include it.

That's just smiths_fan_21384....he gets out sometimes.

And oscillate wildly IS an amazing song.

ON EDIT: My vote goes to "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others"

Yes, Oscillate Wildly is hauntingly beautiful.

On Edit: I had to go with There is a Light...

9. Agreed
Although Stop Me has this gem:

"And the pain was enough to make
A shy, bald, buddhist reflect
And plan a mass murder"

It doesn't get any better than that IMO.

11. Remember this one too
Sweetness, sweetness, I was only joking when I said
I'd like to smash every tooth in your head.

Sweetness, sweetness, I was only joking when I said
by rights you should be bludgeoned in your bed.

Morrissey was one of the funniest lyricists.

13. Or:
"Poor woman.
Strangled in her very own bed as she read,
but that's okay:
'cause she was old and she would have died anyway."

7. Had to go with Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want...
Short, sweet, and to the point.

So, for once in my life
Let me get what I want
Lord knows, it would be the first time.

Think I'll go dig out the album :)

Sid

I was just about to ask that question--you just read my mind! Although it's really sad in my case that I was going to ask because I have the CD in my bedroom (which is about two steps away but I'm too lazy to go look) and I used that song in a documentary that I did for a visual journalism class. :dunce:

20. Frankly Mr Shankly
is my fave

ah, for the days when the 21st century was breathing down our necks...

I miss the 80s, can you believe it? Not everything, but the music was so much better than now, IMHO.

25. Yeah, some of Morissey's solo stuff is very cool as well.
Some of it got kind of pretentious, but that first solo album was really good.

Suedehead and EveryDay is Like Sunday are my two favs off that.

29. My favs from that cd is Break Up the Family
Hairdresser On Fire and Dial A Cliche. My sig line used to be "the strange logic in your clumsiest line it stayed emblazoned on my mind" from Break Up The Family, my personal dedication to bush*. But now I choose to lighten up and use a line from The King and I song Shall We Dance. I love November Spawned A Monster from Bona Drag.
