1. that is beautiful . . .

and when it first came up - i thought of Hitchcock's "Rear Window" film.

funny how the brain does its own version of free association.

2. Now that you mention it, it does evoke that film.

My first thought on seeing it was about the Haarlem Renaissance, which was one of the great art movements of the 20th century, or any century.

But you're right, the painting depicts the same era as the film.
