Martial arts in everyday life
No, it's not what you think - no beating the sh*t out of somebody in self-defense.

It's not Shaolin Soccer either, and my taekwondo days are long behind me, but it occurred to me this afternoon while I had to stand for my 12-minute metro ride home that a modified horse stance not only keeps me from falling all over the place, but spares my knees as well. I don't even have to lower my center of gravity that much.

Cool. :)

2. The standard horse stance is
Feet well apart, knees bent and pointing front, back straight, and you lower your bum so your CG is lowered as well. We used it during upper body practice (punches), and it's really hard to dislodge you when you get it right.

I didn't feel like lowering myself that much; 2-3 inches do the trick, and nobody can tell. Baggy pants help.

3. That makes perfect sense
so much better than shifting one's weight onto one leg and then having to change position a minute later because the stance is awkward and stressful.

4. But if you're not wearing something baggy
It looks like you're trying to dislodge bat-wings.

Just sayin'.

8. ROFL
I'd have to practice a bit first, though. I still have the speed, but no stamina whatsoever. :D
