If NASCAR is Republican, IndyCar is Democratic.
Paul Newman owned a team.
David Letterman owns another.
Foreign drivers are welcome.
A woman won races.

The pic below is from the 2008 Indy 500 quals, May 10:

1. You are most likely right, but
I've been a NASCAR fan for years, my wife and I have been to several races, have banners of our favorite drivers in the garage, keep up with the circuit on a weekly basis, AND WE VOTE FOR EVERY DEMOCRAT ON EVERY BALLOT put in front of us. We don't watch Indy races, the NASCAR wrecks are more plentiful and exciting.

3. Point taken. It's a statistics thing.
Likewise, you could find plenty of Republican voters in NYC if you went looking for them.

2. rally racing
at the Maine Forest Rally this year the Oxford County Dems had a tent set up with signs and stickers. Rally racing is awesome. Can't ask for more with off road racing. The crashes are usually good and the environment is nice. You get to hang out in the woods and travel around to the next stage. My kids love Travis Pastrana and Ken Block. They are already asking to go to Tim O'Neil's driving school when they get older. :D

4. sadly, Tony George and Roger Penske are
decidedly fascist, but for the most part you are right...

6. I can't stand to watch INDY racing.
It is just not for me. I can't say that I believe they are very democratic. To me, when Danica Patrick started racing there was a lot of blatant sexism and even hatred displayed toward her. Besides NASCAR had women drivers long before INDY did, and NASCAR also has foreign born drivers and owners. True most of the NASCAR drivers probably do vote republican, but so do most of the INDY drivers. I still like watching NASCAR.

8. unfortunately, I don't think Letterman is a Democrat
From interviews I've heard, and things he's said on his show, he seems to be a sort of old-style conservative (i.e. actually conservative, not a crazy reactionary war-loving, god-invoking neocon). Sure, he hates Bush & Co., but I don't think he's a Democrat.

9. Well, then, of all people in the USA who are not Democrats
he's the most skilled at pretending he's one.

11. what makes you think he's a Dem?
I'm honestly asking. I've never seen anything from him to suggest it. Is there something that I'm missing?

10. I think ALMS truly is the most Democratic of the racing leagues

They have drivers and cars from all over the world. A lot of the teams even go to France and race in the 24 Heures Du Mans... (24 hours of Le Man)

15. That would have been a good one to watch
I am Ferrari fan and like watching them win. I enjoyed Michael Schumachers last season and his battle with Fernando Alonso. There was some good driving that season, but I really have not watched it much since.
