Dog drug question. Rimadyl with expration date of 2.06. Still good?
I ran out of the new, and found a bottle in the cabinet where I keep all the other dog stuff. The dose is 100mg, but I usually give half of that. Is the old drug ok to give?

3. For someone that posts the most inane and detailed triva of your life, maybe you would
understand I am asking this question because I am in a bind with my dog.

Thanks for the fucking laff.

4. Does your vet take calls over the weekend?
I don't think any of us are really qualified to say.

5. Supposedly the shelf life is 36 months
You've now done twice that.

6. Thank you.
My vet like all in Phoenix do not work out arrangements with people that need drugs for dogs. They want the cash, and they want it now. I had a supply of 100mg tablets that I broke in quarters. I asked my vet if they would let me get drugs today, and get them their cash on Tuesday. They said no.

I have been going to this vet and paying in full every time I go. They cannot let 80 bucks out the door apparently for a person that has been taking their dog to them for five years. Other vets I have called will not do anything unless I bring him in for a full physical. He had one three months ago at the vet that will not let me get the drugs that he has been seeing all along.

I appreciate your response. Thank you for not making a joke about it.

7. You could probably ask a regular pharmacist.
I always get my dog meds straight from the vet but my understanding is that drugstores do pet meds, too.

8. You could just call the pharmacist.
A one year expiration date is arbitrarily applied to all medications. Carprofen is like Motrin for dogs. My general opinion is that it should be safe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carprofen

Sorry your vet is such a cheapskate. I found this when I looked up the med, it is a coupon for $10 off your next prescription. Good luck and give your pooch a gentle hug for us. http://www.rimadyl.com/display.asp?country=US&lang=EN&drug=RC&species=CN&sec=800

9. I asked my vet for you.
The question is, when was it prescribed? You've got 36 months from the date you received it, technically, and only if it's been stored properly.

13. Not exactly.
It becomes less effective, not toxic, I was sure to ask that. It's only been 8 months past expiration, so I wouldn't adjust the dose.

16. Should be, yes.
The vet said that if it was a couple years expired, then it wouldn't be as effective. You're about 8 months over, I believe, so it should still be just about as effective as it was before it expired so don't alter the dose.

14. I'm lucky.
I live with a senior vet tech and I have 4 vets that work with my rescue, including our emergency clinic. It's like 24/7 access.

You're most welcome, and I hope you see my above response and you don't toss what you have.
