I think my right ear is plugged up
any ideas as to how I can unplug it?

it makes listening to music an odd experience for sure and I am doing my best to procrastinate at the moment.

3. If it isn't an infection, or a sinus problem
Use a small amount of hydrogen peroxide. If you have a build-up of wax, it will fizz up and dissolve it.

6. No infections here
I think it may just be a build up. I was going to go take a nice hot steamy shower and see if letting some of the hot water in there helped.

if not, I will try the hydrogen peroxide. Thanks.

unless your eardrums have ever had problems.

And I'd suggest a candle in each ear, so that you get two lightsources a la headlights.

8. Might want to see a doctor or ear specialist
Maybe it seems like overkill but you don't want to rupture your eardrum, trust me. They can prescribe something that will effectively help with a blockage.

I had an uncle who was getting depressed as he thought he was losing his hearing, then went to a doctor who removed the ear wax buildup, restoring his hearing immediately.

If it's infection-related (discharge, unusual ear wax) get to a specialist and get a prescription to clear it up. Don't wait or you will be looking at reconstructive surgery. Not fun, take my word for it!

10. it does seem like overkill at the moment
but if neither of the two ideas I have work, then I will go see the doctor. If that doesn't work then I am off to kill a black cat, stick some candles in my ears and walk through the graveyard at midnight...

12. If it's just wax buildup
(and I got this advice from a doctor buddy of mine)

Mix a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol with a little hydrogen peroxide. Using a dropper of some kind, put 5 or 6 drops in the ear and let sit. You'll hear all kids of fizzing 'n shit. Might need to do that a couple times (don't do it too many times in a row, though). Let the ear dry out (that's what the alcohol is for) and you should be good as new.

21. This is what you want->
I have had to go to the doctor's office every couple of years to get my ears unplugged. Usually they used the ear syringe, and it took twenty minutes or longer. Last time they used one of these and I was out of there in just a few minutes. I will probably buy one, even if the price is a bit much for a glorified spray bottle.

I get plugged ears every 3 or 4 years.

and it worked beautifully.

Which I am sure gives Flvegan a huge sigh of relief. I am positive he didn't want me coming down to Florida after him...

31. I went to the top ear specialist at Vanderbilt for ear infections.
He advised to not let anyone, healthcare provider or not, use the water method on my ear. The preferred treatment now is to "vacuum" out the debris with a special gizmo. Don't put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear either. :D
