Kitten!!!! (pictures too)
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 12:08 AM by GirlinContempt
I was fostering with our Humane Society here for the past couple of months. I figured, since I'm home all the time anyway, I may as well do something useful with my time.

I ended up with six kittens (Yes, SIX) and their mum, all veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrry cute.

I took them all back today, they've gained the right amount of weight, they're all healthy, happy, and well socialized, so hey, go me!

But one little girl, she was special. She climbed a six foot barrier just to get to me and cuddle with me when I wasn't in the rooms with them. She loves to sleep with her paws wrapped around my face, or else cuddled entirely under the blankets on my tummy or thighs.

She managed to befriend my grumpy loner cat! He's a total doll, but he doesn't make buddy buddy with other cats. He tolerates them, but isn't friends. Now these two curl up together and clean each other and everything. SO cute.

But, I couldn't afford her. I'm still all disabled and not working and stuff, money is basically non-existent, and $169 was out of the question.
And then, my dearest and most wonderfulest friend in the whole wide world Rena, and her very sweet boyfriend, bought her for me for a christmas and birthday present. They are maybe the best people that ever lived. Ever.

So, my baby is home with me, prowling around, mewling for her brothers and sisters, staring up at me with those big golden eyes.

I'm very very lucky.

My little Pritika is the gorgeous black and orange calico with the golden eyes and elfin features. Her name means beloved one.

the others are named:
Balram - Brother of Krishna (he's the white and beige male)
Purujit - Winner of love (Orange poofy tabby, adopted by a friend of mine who met him at my place)
Nandita - Giver of Comfort (White beige & grey calico)
Lalasa - Love (Grey poofy tabby)
Sakari - Lovely (Other grey poofy tabby)

The Mums name is Punky, she came pre-named.

1. That must have been fun, and what a good idea to foster a kitty family
I can't afford a cat in addition to our dog, but it's just as well because our Border Collie/heeler mix
herded our old cat too much and I wouldn't want another cat to have to put up with it!
That was very sweet of your friends to buy the kitten for you. I would think the place you fostered them for would let you have one kitten for free.

5. They like to send out kittens in groups for fosters when they can
It's kitten season right now, so there were LOTS to take. Fortunately for me, money wise, feeding two cats really doesn't seem much more expensive than feeding one. Plus I got some free food, and lots of coupons and some free pet insurance and my vet bills are covered for a time, all part of the adoption.

The Humane Society has a policy with fosters, that you have to either foster three times or have spent three months as a foster to get a special discounted rate. I'm not even sure what the rate is. I've only fostered once, and only for two months. I tried to convince them that because I took SEVEN BLOODY CATS it should count as more, because most people only take maybe two at a time, but they were being all bureaucratic about it. I also spent a hell of a lot of money when I was fostering, on food and litter for the little guys because I couldn't go in once a week and pick up food for them and stuff. But, it sort of worked out in the end so it's ok.

6. Hey Peggy
My health is still the total shits :( Worse than before.... But, I may start posting more again, we'll see how I feel. Most of the time I just can't sit at the computer, and when I can, I just don't feel like getting in to arguments and stuff, you know? I've been sort of... secluding myself, mostly because lately I'm more likely to be an even bigger bitch than normal. :)

8. I dunno about hero
but, I have so much time on my hands, and they have way too many kittens and not enough space or fosters, so they put the little cuties down :( I had to try and help.

19. They're pretty awesome friends!
And kitten seems pretty pleased with herself. She's sitting in my laundry basket chewing a sock, gloating.
