Showed up today and i went to the post office to pick it up. New Fostex VF-16 multitrack recorder. Record up to 8 tracks at a time, up to 24 during mixdown. Motorized faders and scene and fader memory.

NOW WE'RE GOING TO GET SERIOUS ABOUT A NEW ALBUM!

10. I Wanted An All In One

We're actually going to do live recording of all rhythm tracks, so we wanted something self contained that would be simple to take to record, take home to premix rhythm tracks (say all drums to stereo, bass and 2 guitars to stereo), then carry it back and do solos, vocals, then back home for keys and final mixdown. No computer to move, no nothing. We don't rehearse at my house!

I thought about your approach, but it doesn't work for us.

Um, No! I Don't Want One Of Those

It won't fit in my little convertible. I mean if i had an extra 1000 square feet in my house, i would like one. But, i don't, so i can't and i won't.

This thing only weighs about 9#'s. Perfect for our application!

You can't come over yet. We don't have the rest of the mikes yet. We have about 15, but we still need a mike for the floor tom, one for the high hat, and a better main vocal mike. We should have those in a month or so. In the meantime, it's rehearse, rehearse, rehearse, so every little thing is sharp and tight.

dam things were always self destucting..but they were fun to tear apart and throw out the window of a moving car....oh , wrong kind...

9. Tip from me, to you:

When you put the masking tape down along the faders to write what track is what, don't skimp. Use the most expensive blue masking tape you can find!

12. Each Track Can Be Named

The display will show which track is which. All you have to do is look at it and it will show whatever name you've given it. It's pretty cool! I'm about half way through the manual. (I know, it's unamerican to read the instructions. But, i pulled it out at lunch time and went back to work. During a coffee break i tore through a bunch of it.)

Cuz, i would want whatever you got. So, we'd need more room, more money, etc. For me there is my wife, my dog, musical gear and golf (not the equipment, just the game). All else just happens to be there.
