Are we all feeling Victimized Today?
Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 02:31 PM by lionesspriyanka
I think we are all upset more than usual this week. Here are the groups I think are all upset ..give me your opinion on why you are upset ...

1. We Gays are upset because of the pending Constitutional Ban on Marriage

2. Christians are upset because people have been stating how tired they are at having to live my biblical values

3. some people think the passion is anti semitic

4. some people think the gay rights issue will make us loose the election

5. Nader

6. Upset for other reason (as was pointed out to me)

2. I'm upset because I haven't been victimized yet.
Come on, someone's got to have it in for opinionated straight Scots-Canadian Socialists.

4. I don't want men who wear skirts and eat sheep stomach around me.
Especially if they say "eh" after everything.

There, feel better now?

3. Tolerance is the key
1. As a hetero, I support gay marriage. It does not affect my marriage at all. The pursuit of happiness is in the Constitution. As is freedom of expression. End of story.

2. Christians need to learn tolerance. They need to practice what they preach.

3. I have not seen the Passion, but I have already heard rumblings about the Jews killing Jesus. My bloodline gives me some reason to be concerned about this.

4. The gay rights issue will not cause us to lose the election.

5. Nader is a schmuck.

13. About #2
I don't think there is quite as much thin-skinnedness in other religions. I don't recall seeing Jews or Muslims or Baha'is or what have you starting threads complaining about the lack of respect their religion gets. It may be a product of belonging to the "dominant" strain. It is reminiscent of the fragility white male heterosexuals have been showing in recent years. So there must be something about belonging to a ruling class that inspires defensiveness and hypersensitivity to "slurs."

Granted, people do feel quite a bit less restrained to let the insults fly toward Christians and Christianity than they do to most other religions, beside the "enemy" one of Islam.

Being of Jewish heritage, I am thin-skinned when people knock the Jews as an ethnicity. Which happens. I could care less what they think about the beliefs. It is after all, just a belief. And one that I actually do not have a whole lot of faith in myself.

I can't stand people who say their BELIEF is the right belief. Unfortunatley, many Christians are guilty of this. And if you try to reason with them, just to get them to understand that there are other opinions out there that should be respected as equally valid, they look at you like: you poor, damned soul. You'll find your way eventually. Or you'll burn in hell.

24. Even the notion that one has a right to not have one's beliefs criticized
I find irritating. No one has a right to have criticism-proof beliefs. Except Emporers and other dictators.

6. Why am I upset as a gay man about FMA?
An amendment is proposed...with some chance of passage and ratification...that would discriminate against me and other gay men and women...because we are perceived as a "threat" to marriage.

This amendment is pure evil. A slap in the face to people who merely want to share the SAME...not "special rights" as the ignorant homophobes would have you believe...the SAME rights as heterosexual married couples. We just want the right to marry and celebrate our love and committment. And goddammit, that is NOT asking too much.

7. I'm upset because , 911 commission denied , Plame inves. denied
Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 02:36 PM by proud patriot
The fetusses are people too and have rights act just passed ,
the FMA hate amendment ,Mike Malloy won't be on the air
tonight and all people can talk about is this movie ,
that I may or may not see .

There is a lot of serious actions to be taken in this
critical time . But those threads are dropping while
the distracted argue about something that happened
over 2000 years ago .

I'm seriously upset about this .

I've got a son and a future to fight for so I'm
going to try to make the future better for him.

15. I know the cure
I wasn't feeling particularly victimized this week (well any more than I usually have since Chimp-boy took over the country), but I certianly found the cure. DO SOMETHING!

I volunteered to be the precinct chair for my precinct this week. I went and did some work for the ACLU. I feel better for having done something, no matter how small. :)

27. I'm upset
about Kerry backing the Mass amendment.
That nobody else has signed the MoveOn petition on the activism board that will help protect children/babies from the gutting of the EPA (read Emporer's Pandering Agency) Clean Air Act as proposed by the Chimp.
That I'm hurting today from an infection that won't go away....
Damn.
