1. Oh yeah. I noticed this down the page
and I have papers to grade, but I could talk Kinski and Kinski/Herzog all day, so I'll cut this short by asking if you've seen any others? I love this movie, but I think I love, love Augirre even more. And then there's that crazy documentary My Best Fiend. If you haven't seen that and you liked the realism of this (they really moved that f-ing boat over the mountain in the manner depicted) you'll love that movie. A couple of sections made me flip out with joyful disbelief at the human, artistic spirit....

Hope to talk soon.

2. Yes , I have seen the documentary
but this is the only Herzog film I watched to date , naturally now this will change soon.

I watched it twice btw, the first time I was high and still it was amazing.

3. Wonderful. Gorgeous.
Didn't that doc strike with...strangeness? Like Herzog's parent lived beneath Kinski? The rantings? The emergency on the boat from this movie, i.e. Kinski the medic? And the butterfly business at the end. Too gorgeous.

I may have to revisit Fitzcaraldo soon now. Maybe this weekend.

As for Kinki in general, my theory about him is that he knew a secret few actors know (or, at least, how to execute): He acted with his whole body. I've seen dozens of his films, and he is always aware of his position in the frame *and* he somehow embodies charcter in body language like no other actor I've seen. Even heavily made up as in Nosferatu or as The Beast in Vadim's version of the Beauty and The Beast from Farie Tale Theater, he exudes something amazing. Powerful sadness. That and his compelling features and his true edge of sanity make for a mesmerizing actor.

Have fun in your pursuits.
